Description
Part III of the VoteAgainst series.I have a crazy fetish for the number 3 evidently. At any rate, this is probably the most personal of the three, being as it hits rather close to home.
Please remember that beyond all the political beliefs I personally hold, this series is meant to make you think for yourself and then voice your opinion to make things change. Especially among the younger generation voter turnout is at a crazy low percentage of the population. So many people hate the way things are going right now, but if we all vote then things will change.

Well, the institution of marriage was intended to create a safe enviroment for children. People were not allowed to have sex outside the bands of marriage. And when they did have sex, when the woman became pregnant, a marriage was expected to occur. Marriage and procreation were two concepts that went together. It's only a few decades ago when marriage started to be seen loose from procreation, when the birth control pill was invented. I seriously regret this evolution.
Many straight people object to gay marriage, not for religious reasons, but because marriage was never intended for this purpose. Before Christianity practically outlawed homosexuality, it was also a part of society. The Germanic people treated men who accepted a female with a mal sex partner as less manly, and these persons thereby lost a part of their reputation. But that was the only way of discrimination. The Greek had their own way of dealing with homosexuality, as you probably know and I should not explain. I find both ways to deal with homosexuality acceptable. Neither had a marital institute for gay people. Marriage for gay people is something I can not accept, merely for the symbolic meaning of marriage. Marriage has already lost much of its meaning, and I don't want it to lose even more.
I do however believe that people who're not married (gay or straight), but live together in a homogenous relationship, should be able to recieve the same monetary and social benifits as a married couple. A few years before gay marriage became legal in my country, there already was a 'living together contract' issued by the state, which made this possible. I thought that was a very good idea. But now my country is amongst the 2 or 3 countries that allows gay people to marry, and that's somethng I object to.

Are you also opposed to a homosexual couple having children? I would think that if a marriage is a safe environment for children you would want gay people with children to be married.

I believe a child should have a mother and a father, as it needs both a male and female role model. This means I'm against gay people having children as much as I'm against single women getting children. Of course, if a parent dies and the other parent stays alone or gets involved with someone of the same gender, I'm willing to see past it.

How is one situation different from the other? All major psychological studies suggest that there are no detrimental effects on children who are raised by two parents of the same sex. What basis do you have for your beliefs that it would be harmful? If it is not harmful then what reasons do you have behind your baseless fears?

So you deny the need for both a male and female role model?

Hey! the concept of marriage is corrupted ANYWAY. what's the big deal??? seriously. Divorce is almost 50% in the US give or take a few. Divorce goes AGAINST the concept of marriage. and to top that off, what about those who are married but have sexual relations with another person outside of the marriage, is that not wrong as well? I'm sorry, people can complain all they want about "corrupting the concept of marriage" but in this day in age people need to realize that concept died YEARS ago. Welcome to the new century, time's a changing, you're either on the boat or not.
About having a male or female role model... I have yet to hear anything bad about couples of the same sex having issues with children they adopt. Are you to condem those who were born a little different than you so that they may not have the same joys in life such as rearing children? Who's to judge them? Certainly not you nor the country. There is so much crap out there today, the last worry on my mind is if some child is going to grow up deranged because his parents are of the same sex. Personally I think parents who abuse each other or their children should be the ones you need to bash, not the ones who will love their children.

You may not give a **** about the concept of marriage changing, but I do. Call me a traditionalist, but I would like to see certain things back as they once were.
Concerning who're fit parents or not, I agree that there are issues much worse than parents being of the same gender. There are also issues much worse than hitting someone in the face. That doesn't mean we should allow people hitting each other in the face. There is a reason why a male and a female need eachother to procreate. There is a reason why the concept of marriage was once invented. Throwing all that away, is ignoring the ancient wisdom of our ancestors and the ways of nature.
But surely, parents who abuse each other or their children should not be taken lightly. The abusive parent diserves to be locked up. Did I say ANYWHERE that I did not have any problems with this kind of abuse?

ok, then tell me about divorce. That was never meant to be apart of marriage, marriage was designed to last until death (if you know the vows). Get married, get divorced, get married again, get divorced. What shit is that? Until you get rid of divorce as an option, then I don't see any problem with changing the way "marriage" is handled, because with divorce still lingering, "marriage" will never be what it was intended to be. Period.

I can pretty much agree with that, but there has to be a way for people to get rid of their partner when that partner is abusive or he/she breaks the vows of marriage. Sure, the state can punish this partner for his/her behavior, but unless in the case of a death sentence, both partners are still bound by marriage. I do believe that death sentence is still a bit harsh for this

I don't think gender has much to do with it at any level. Two parents are most definately better than one because if offers the child a more balanced perspective on things.

I agree that two parents are better than one, but it's even better when both are of a different gender, as males and females are inherently different psychologically.

Generally with couples of the same gender, one will more than likely show more characteristics of one "sex" than the other. There is almost always a more masculine and a more feminine person in the relationship. Again I would like to state that ALL psychological studies have shown that there are NO bad effects to having two parents of the same gender. Two guys with kids that provide a loving, healthy environment are much better parents than a heterosexual couple that does not ... and vise versa. Just because you are heterosexual doesn't make you FIT to be a parent, and neither does being homosexual. But one's sexuality is not the deciding factor.

I'm not convinced that a 'feminine' man is feminin enough for all children, though he probably is for many.

i was having a huge discussion with my friend about that very topic and then ran across this. i so totally agree 100% and then some. the way it's put together really catches the eye and gives an voices the opinion without seeming overly anti-anything which can be a huge turn off to many people. awesome work, deffinat favorite.

I think you've just become one of my favorite political-based deviants. A lot of government issues hit home for me too, even though people would prefer president bashing to president-voting. Go figure.
I'm going to add this to my favorites, and then go look at the other pieces from this collection. You've gained my watchful eye.

i agree fully (and also admire your graphic design achievement). religion is the cause of ALL problems in the world... the only true peacemakers are the people who think for themselves and act accordingly (because if you question enough, there is only one conclusion: putting the unknown in a box and living without petty arguments)

religion is the CAUSE of all the world's problems?
I thought man was the CAUSE of all the world's problems.
religion is just a theory at best.
man is the reason there is hatred, abolition, destruction, disease, death.
without man in your equation at best it's meaningless.

I completely agree with you! Bush should never win anything and people should actually do their research....why is it they ignore so much in the bible, like how it says that cutting your beard is just as much of an "abomination" and eating shell-fish is the same. Why is that? *sigh* I completely agree with you. This is one of those topics that gets me really fired up.

The sad thing about religion in politics is religion wins elections...
Bush for his evangelical (which I am still doubting) beliefs won the election
I don't know if it's the fact that people assume Christians are generally good people, so why not put one in the White House or what, but it makes me sick
Our enemies already see the wars against us as religious wars and not political wars, if we keep mixing religion and politics together there will be some serious consequences
Hell, Bush even said that he thought God wanted him to be President
Ack, now you got me on a rant!
I love it man, the meaning behind all of these is very original, the idea that they want you not to care
yet again

being as it hits rather close to home
and seriously, i'm happy that it does.
i'm happy that you aren't like those ppl who are different (not just gay, different) but will target everything else and say that those things must be accepted when they don't really accept themselves.
i like the way you've done this too, the orange really stands out and brings out the dark brown too.
beautiful colour combo, josh.
looks really nice together.
again, amazing job not only with this with all of the posters you've done. it's like a series, but one that has a really clear meaning.
