Now this is why I love this style...it's got all the bad-ass and attitude that the "new-age" Sonic has to offer, but retains the glorious classic Sonic look.
Personally, this is my fav out of this series of 4. When I get around to making a DeviantID for myself, the cutout of this will most definately have to be on there.

This is why I love the Sonic CD style. The expressions!
It's a simple drawing style but it has endless potential for expression drawing!
And now, some crits....
I think you should change the brush you're using for shading, I think you should use a brush shich isn't as soft or not so "antialiased" at the edges.
Take a close look at the movie and try to find the perfect brush ^^
Or I could be wrong, I haven't seen those clips for a loong time

The brush thing is certainly possible (although I actually don't use a brush for that either 
The original cartoon had very little shading actually, really none to speak of except for basic shadows beneath Sonic and one when he lifts his hand over his eyes. My rendition of the pics looked far too "flat" just being colored in, do I felt obligated to just give it a full shade job for added depth.

Now that you mention it, it didn't really have any shading..
Well, just do a LITTLE blurring, just a flat one could perhaps look well, to flat
