Aye, thanks for the detailed critique!

True the nose is a little out of focus. My goal was to bring good focus to the eyes and into the mouth, so at the zoom I was at, and as close as I was, I had to give and take a little bit to keep sharp the part I was trying to capture the most...so with that in mind I feel I was successful. A smaller aperature could have helped a little with the rest, but just like you said, I didn't have too much time to mess around with it.

I hear you on the border too...that's an interesting observation. I was trying to get a somewhat intimidating impact out of this picture, from a normally loving and playful dog...so I wanted to contrast with the lighter parts of the picture in the border; that's why I went with black. But again, that's a really interesting observation that I hadn't noticed

Thanks!

Perfect. Really, I love how this picture spreads out aggressive patience - that's the feeling I get by looking at it - you really did a great thing by choosing to make it black and white. The only problems I see with this picture is that the nose somehow seems to be out of focus (and I know it's hard to do with a nervous doggy hehe) and the lot of black around the picture is too much pressure on the piece, your dog seems like captured without a chance to get out - maybe this is what you wanted to tell, but dogs are animals that chose to be with a human, or to be free - that's why I think we should give this doggy a chance and maybe reduce the black around it hehe
But that's just my view, cause I don't know your backgrounds on this piece of course!
All in all a WONDERFUL shot!

Thanks! Yeah, this was a pretty hard shot to get. The subject is simple, but getting close enough and timing right was pretty difficult. I really like this picture for that reason.
