Because of the population influx to the urban areas in Nepal--primarily Kathmandu--many immigrants end up landless, or too far beneath the sustainable class line of society to have access to basic things like housing. Despite the fact that outside of the monsoon season, the Bagmati is 90% wastewater and excrement from the cities sewage system, many of these people are forced to draw their water for washing from it.
