Description
Wasn't going to submit this because it isn't really my normal style. But I decided it would be a good submission for the Monochrome Your World contest, over at *RestlessPhotographer 's. Maybe you'll enjoy it as wellDesaturated using the calculations method.

Sorry about the delayed response...Thanks for the comment though! The calculations method is something you can do in photoshop to give yourself an endless variety of alternate ways to turn a photo into black and white. Similar to the differences from one type of black and white film to another, and of using bw filters on your lense.
From the edit menu you click on the calculations... option. From there you can choose to blend different colors together in the final image, like red and green, or gray and blue, etc. This gives you different varieties of contrasts and tones in your black and white image. You can also choose the opacity level of it, which will effect the intensity. It's all I use to convert my images to black and white becuase I feel so much more flexibility in bringing out textures and such in an image. Good luck!
