Description
the "Doorway of Ghosts"A little fun with night photography. Hope you enjoy
No manipulation or modification besides cropping out some empty space on the left
Technical:
Not to ruin the fun of imagination, but I will tell some info on taking this shot. My tools were a Nikon D70s, Nikkor 18-70mm lens @ 22mm, tripod, small mirror, LED flashlight and a paper towel to diffuse the light a bit.
Mounted on the tripod, I framed the image the way I wanted on the mirror, set to an aperature of 22, at 10 seconds exposure. Before I took the shot I drew a picture in my head of how I wanted the image to look. I think planning this type of shot is very important so it doesnt look un-uniform or sloppy. Then I turned out the lights and "painted" the image with the flashlight. This is my first attempt at anything like this, so for that I was very happy with what I got. I found that the mirror can add an aspect to the image you couldn't get otherwise. In this case, the feeling of a doorway that the trails are passing through. The deep purple of the mirror and blue of the LED light really worked well together too. Also, keeping control on where the light waves allows you enless possibility on the effects it has on the background. In this case, keeping the trails over the mirror when low to the ground, I was able to light only the inner rim of the mirror, without exposing any of the ground or the rest of the surroundings. This gives a feeling of the portal being suspended in a void of space.
I will be playing around with this a lot more I'm sure, so I am excited to see the possibilities! It is a fun and quick project when there is nothing else around to photograph at night
Full view of course, please! Thanks

Two things I like about this one. The image itself and the fact that you got the trouble to give specific details in how you've done it!
thumbs up for both and for you!

I usually hate these kinda shots - but this one works for me. After reading your description; I understand that its cause you actually put some thought into it, didnt just turn out the lights; take 329847972 photos of a flashlight, and then look for the inevitable 1 or 2 that worked.
kudos

Nicely done Josh. I like these shots, but there tends to be a lack of imagination with them. This is very different from anything else I've seen. Probably because of the way the image changes the whats happening in the image.

Looks great. Is this just a night photo or did you rework it a bit, too?

Nope, just a night photo
A little playing around with the camera, a flashlight, paper towel to diffuse the light, and a mirror
