Description Yin and Yang
Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA

Yin Yang: Everything has its opposite within it.

My approach for this piece was purely photographic. I wanted there to be a balance in the image between earth and sky. I am pretty content with how it came out. I wanted the burned out area of the sun in the left to balance the unexposed canopy of the tree in the right. I also hoped this would be further expressed by the lack of any flora on the left as well as a lack of much highlighted sky on the right. There is a beautiful and delicate balance amongst all the elements of nature, and I am always moved when someone can clearly capture that concept onto film. Or in pixels

Great shot Josh. It's really well balanced in composition and tone. It stops short of putting that tree into silhouette.

Thanks Pete. Not sure if the last part was a critique or not, but it was my intention not to leave it completely unexposed. There were some interesting highlights in the bark that I wanted to subtly keep in the image. Cheers.

It's the detail that makes the image.
