Unknown to its original design team, one of the coders had slipped in a hidden subroutine within Voltorb's code. It triggered the Pokemon to go through a transformation when it reached a certain strength. Allowing it to, in essence, evolve.

Using the same 3D printing technology it uses to reproduce, Voltorb can internally advance itself, boosting its weapons system, battery capacity, and CPU.

When it's nearly complete, it begins work on creating a new metallic shell to house its now much larger and robust internal structure. Finally, it sheds its old shell and moves into its new one, becoming, Electrode.

Their destructive power is almost tripled and they now sport an external vent that allows for internal cooling. At the point of detonation, the blast shields above the viewing ports will close and lock, its vents slam shut and the two segments of its shell open wide, exposing the spinning electromagnetic detonator. The explosive blast that proceeds has been known to demolish entire buildings.

Electrode is classed as a 'Category 5 Pokemon', meaning only trainers with advanced training in Electric Type Pokemon should approach them. If they are spotted, government officials have stressed that it is important to report it immediately, especially when near a populated area.
