Heres a classic mermaid i drew while waiting to board a plane when going on holiday.Hope you like it.

well they are and arnt, there are mixed legends that get confused on which is which

but they have similar methods of hunting, and the same prey. Just one flies and one swims. Both use seduction as a lure and then they devour sailors.

harpies fly down and kill peope lwith their talons. THe yare birdss with women's heads. A siren is similar, but is bassically a woman wit ha harp, which is part bird. Idunno.
Anyway, i wonder if the mermaid you have has any relation to the ocean person

a distant relation possibly, like the ocean man being a subspecies of the mermaid, or cousin species?

or maybe a more advancd species conflict, like cor magnon and neanderthal
