Description
DATE: 12/07/09 TIME: 3 PM LOCATION: Congo, Africa
ID: 832 STATEMENT: 1968
We were visiting the privately owned Likounda Elephant Reserve in the Republic of the Congo, Africa after we got wind of unusual activity in the area. Upon arrival, we were met by Professor Phillip Charlton, one of the researchers who lived on location. He was our contact here and though he was hesitant at first, he eventually explained everything. Two years ago the rangers had been told that a baby elephant had been found caught in some roots after a large storm hit the area. However, when they found the animal, it turned out not to be an elephant at all, but in fact, a creature they thought was long extinct, something the locals called Mokele-Mbembe. What they had discovered was a living baby sauropod, a living Dinosaur, one not known to the fossil record. They rescued it and transported it back to the sanctuary, making sure to keep it secret. It grew in the safety of the park, protected by a group of armed men at all times. We made a deal. We would help keep its existence hidden in exchange for blood samples and copies of his research.

ASSET ANALYSIS: Mokele-Mbembe (Biakasaurus)
THREAT LEVEL: 4 (DANGEROUS)
Though the one found grew to be docile, they are widely known for their aggression and will attack anything within their territory. Originally reported by the BiAka Pygmie tribe in 1909, they have since changed their story saying that the animals were simply ‘Rhinoceros’ after so many came looking to hunt the animals. The name Mokele-Mbembe means ‘the one who stops rivers’ as adults rival even fully grown bull elephants. They are reported of having a diet of highly toxic fruit and won’t be hunted as their flesh is poisonous.
