I love your pokΓ©mon photographs, but that thing is a doppelganger it's not a psychic duck, or he is and he scares me? Well yeah, you're supposed to never let him not, evolve. But uhm, you see that, and you're like, don't do that duck.. don't, start doing that, just stop, but don't stop you're freaking me out when you stop moving and stare at me like that... I didn'tΒ use fibermesh for this one, its just photobashing TBH though I know how to use fibermesh and it works fine in Zbrush, I can't export it into Keyshot as it renders every hair individually and crashes. So I'm not sure how to solve that problem??

That's unfortunate. Still a fairly effective result nontheless...I've had lots of keyshot crashes myself for even non fibremesh stuff. I really need to start using Keyshot though as opposed to BPR zbrush renders. How did you manage to do vulpix, without fibremesh?Β

It was photo bashing and digital painting mainly. but it still didn'tΒ look the best without fiber mesh. I'mΒ probably gonna have to use fiber meshΒ for furry Pokemon in the future though, I'mΒ gonna have to learn how to set up lighting properly in Zbrush

It's a lot easier imo in zbrush. Just move the point light around and get lots and lots of light passes. Then tweak them in photoshop with your main on the bottom and the other light passes on top as screen.Β
Definitely a good idea to change Opacities (some passes will have weaker light then others, eg:- bounce light off the ground), hue/saturation(clicking the colourize button, having differently coloured light sources really makes models look more interesting and makes sense if reflection off a coloured surface for example) and tweak levels for more dramatic/high contrast sources (eg:- rim lights if an object is backlit, or there is a very close intense light source eg:- breathing fire!).
Spec passes work very similarly. However, Zbrush doesn't have the same materials so you'll have to be careful. I use the default reflectedmap1 material, however it is important that you adjust levels on this pass, because otherwise it will make your model look washed out.
AO is fine in Zbrush I leave it as is, it always helps with values and making parts of models pop out. I usually leave it as is, on 100% opacity even. The effect is quite subtle.
SSS in zbrush is the final caveat. It is freaking horrible, almost useless IMO. You might prefer just painting in SSS yourself (a concept which sounds pretty difficult I admit). What I do is I, DO use Zbrush SSS, but with a layer mask, and painting in only the ares I want. I assume my creatures have red blood , so I colourize the layer red (it is greyscale by default) and I paint back in the SSS in all the thin membrane areas of the model and places I assume will have it, like around the rim of the model. You'll have to get used to this workflow and do it by eye.
Also, transparency and translucency in zbrush is a bitch. Haven't figured out how to do that yet. You are going to have a nightmare trying to do your beautiful eyes that you do in Keyshot. With translucency, like in my charizard's wings, I just used a lot of hand panted SSS on screen blend mode to have it look like light was shining though them. In the new version of my render I mean (not the stadium one, the original one but with tweaks to the original file).Β
