thats a shame cuz its the ladies that are sometimes too shy or don't feel right making the first move

I say just don't overthink it and GO IN THERE! lol

Interesting point, man. There's actually another girl I talk to (well, on this site anyway. Guess that merits for something, even if we don't see each other face to face), and we ended up talking about, 'ya know, girls and guys,...like "that", and she said that, herself being a female, they seem to expect the guy to make the first move afterall. It's just been that, from personal experience, it never really came off that way for way. I'd watch all the guys just "work their magic" on the girls (some of it's definitely NOT magic), and with that recurring scene, that's how I figured girls would want it to be. Then again I've had personal experiences where it really felt like I could've connected with a few ladies, and it almost seemed like they were expecting that, but I just couldn't get around my shyness. Then again, that's some few years ago; it's amazing how much time can help you "toughen up". Not sayin' I'm gonna be a playa or anything like that (my mom would kick my ass if she found me with a black book and beeper, hehe), but I think I can ask a girl out now if I was genuinely interested in her. Now I just need to find a girl actually worth the effort.....

I agree...imo players=lame
they just cause more people to get hurt and in turn treat other people like dirt and the cycle continues

um...anyways before this turns into dating tips from an unqualified 'dear abbey'...in the end-just be confident...how? do something everyday(or as often as possible) that scares you...nothing drastic, just little seemingly insignificant things(...eventually you'll gain confidence and girls won't be this giant mountain of a hurdle to climb

wow...um...I shouldn't be giving out this kind of advice LOL

Oh I don't know about that,...insofar as you givin' out the advice. I'll give it a shot. After all, I can't hurt myself, now can I (alright that was pretty dumb of me to say). I suppose it really does all come down to confidence. I reckon I'm a pretty confident fella, but could work at it. BUT, I am curious as to what you mean about the whole "do something that scares you everything" thing. Can it be, like, anything? Or something more specified dealing with the ladies....'cuz I was just fending on, like, sleeping in a pit of maggots or eating cow testicles or some other shit like that, and I'm pretty sure telling a girl about that would do more harm than good....

The way I see it (as far as the player thing's concerned), they eventually get what's comin' to them. I don't wanna sound cliched and bring up the karma crap, but I suppose that holds true. You keep treating people like that and one day someone's bound to call you out on it and make your life a living hell. It's just not worth it. AND, in a bit of an unrelated bit--maybe you should consider being Dr. Phil's co-host. I mean, if the advice helps, that aughta be good enough credintals right there....

...just joking of course. I don't even watch that show anymore....

joverine In reply to FingersCreateDestroy [2008-07-07 02:47:44 +0000 UTC]

hahaha Dr.Phil's cohost?! hhaha
well not sure 'bout that one

um about the "do something that scares you everyday" thing. I just mean small things, like uh...i dunno...things that wouldn't seem to even have a positive effect on you-like if you're afraid of changing the oil on your car-read up on it...ask your handy uncle or car guy friend to help you and learn how--and do it yourself! very small but gratifying experience(potentially dangerous with the car being jacked up--USE jackstands properly!) anyways...thats just an example...i take no responsibility if you suddenly have a car for a perma-hat...

srsly gotta change the subject--I am not qualified to be giving out this type of advice...let alone any type of advice

ps...i think there's something to karma as well... or whatever you wanna call it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FingersCreateDestroy In reply to joverine [2008-07-08 01:22:24 +0000 UTC]

Changing the car's oil, eh? Hmm, well I've never done that before (being as old as I am I guess I should have by some point by now), but that doesn't really seem like something that would scare me to do. I wouldn't be dumb enough to not use a jack to hold the car up, for example, BUT if I were,...well an engine for a helmet wouldn't be a bad fashion statement I guess, especially at a car show (hehe). Maybe they'd go freaks over it, hopefully in that "yeah yeah that shit there's pretty cool!" way.

But that said, there are other things I'm a bit scared to do. I guess dealing with some big bugs is still one of them. It used to be waterbugs/cockroaches too; everytime I'd see one I'd freak the fuck out, but try and play it cool. It was the worse whenever they'd get in the house, especially late at night when you just wanna crash and go to bed, having to worry about some insect that's like three inches long. That's what actually happened just a few days ago when there was this big ass cockroach in out place; my sister was so chicken she let it go in MY room when she could've killed it herself, but that's probably karma 'cuz the night before I took like FOREVER to get off the computer and kill it in her room when she came runnin' to me then. I just wrecked the shit outta my room flippin' the bed over, moving the weights all over and messing up a lot of the papers trying to kill it with the mop, then it tried a sneak attack when it crawled up from UNDER my shoe when I lifted my foot up (don't ask why I didn't kill it then). I was just fed up and stomped it to death with the mop. Went a little Rambo there for that moment, and it felt good.

So yeah, waterbugs/cockroaches aren't so much a thing anymore. I'd honestly rather had caught it and take it back outside than kill it 'cuz I did that with two full-sized grasshoppers in my room at like 2 am; it was easier to trap them than kill them, so I did. I still have a problem with stuff like dragonflies and wasps/bees though,...maybe I can work on that. You know, just sit there and tolerate them flying by me without me running away.

anyways..ya, stuff like that i guess...or public speaking etc.
man...I used to get nervous drawing in front of people...and to think i can do it at cons no prob now...
but ya...you get stronger by facing your fears!

ps...i trap and free even the smallest bugs if i can(usually i can, really no excuse)

FingersCreateDestroy In reply to joverine [2008-07-11 00:37:22 +0000 UTC]

Cool. Damn cool. I used to be bad at speakin' in front of a whole bunch of people too; everytime back in school, when we'd have to do group projects and have to present them in front of the class, I'd ALWAYS try and be the guy who didn't hafta speak a single word, or if anything, just said their name and nothing more. I always usedta think my voice sounded wierd; I'd get joked on it a bit, like I was geek-sounding or whatever, nasel-blockage and that crap. I did/do have sinuses, but I never really thought of myself as sounding that way, but w/e. Anyways I guess I'm generally okay with speaking in front of groups now, but having good teachers and friends and I guess family too helps out in that case. If it weren't for them egging me on the way they did, and me just growin' up in general, I'd still be the "silent" guy in group presentations. Being more social helped with it, too.

You talkin' about millipedes and centipedes? Yeah man, I don't really like 'em either. The way they just slither about, it's like a snake, but not as cool, and more icky. I've only seen them MAYBE once or twice in real life, and in both cases I stayed as far from touchin 'em as possible. Sometimes I don't have a problem lookin' at them on tv, but even then, it depends on what they're doin', and who's doin' what with 'em.

That's pretty rad with the whole con-drawin' and stuff like that. I've always wanted to go to a con, but where I stay at, there isn't much in terms of options. There's Nekocon (if you've ever heard of that), but that's it, and that doesn't happen until this fall I think. It's nowhere near ComicCon proportions, but that's as good as I can do for the time being. Really, though, how's it feel to draw while there at the booth and having all those random people walk by?

ha-I woke up to one of them giant centipedes crawling ON ME...funny part was..i was dreaming that those things were falling from the sky-and were landing all over the place....so i woke up from the nightmare to find a real one on me! like those cheesy movie/tv scenes u know?
anyways ya
they people at the cons dont just walk by...they stop and watch u draw-every line and every mistake haha
but its cool now...fun even
take it easy!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FingersCreateDestroy In reply to joverine [2008-07-15 02:06:57 +0000 UTC]

Eww bro, it landed ON 'ya? Like on 'ya face or somethin' like that? AND you dreamin' about them ploppin' outta the sky right before then?!? Wow man, that's just really damn coincidental; either that or someone was playin' a pretty nasty joke on 'ya. Just a good thing it was one of them and not like, well, the actual nightmare itself. It coul've been a warzone getting them off of 'ya if it were that many. And yes, rightly cheesy it was, like someone filmed you in Attack of the Centipedes (with Technicolor!) against your will or knowing. SUE THEM!!!, hehe.

Cons sound cool, but yeah I can imagine havin' people staring at you like that could get intimidating and annoying after a while, or atleast at first. Sounds like you've been doin' them for a while now, too. I don't think I'm QUITE ready for that just yet, but hopefully I'll get there with some hard work. Peace out man.

Hehe yeah man I'd be major pissed too. Bugs,..sometimes they're just so stupid, especially flies. I HATE flies,...worst insect ever IMHO. Sometimes they'll just fly right up to me, in my face, and I swing my arm at them to shoo them away. You'd think they'd get the message then, but then they come RIGHT BACK and do it all over again. Needless to say I kinda have a personal vendetta against them; whenever I can, SQUAT!, they'll be dead and smushed. Any other insect and I'll much more often than not let it live, but flies do not earn that sympathy from me anymore. They must stay as far away from me as possible if they want to live.

So back to your thing,...just how did it feel having that thing crawl on you like that? Must've felt kinda icky I imagine. Just hoping you didn't tear your place apart after the fact, then again it disturbed your sleep,..no insect should dare ever do that hehe.

you know. after looking at your oro. i realize that ive been putting WAY to much emphisis on pencil work. possibly a bad habit i just never saw.
for example. Ive even seen this in other artists, I.E Hyung Tai kim. Ill see his pencils (some) and go, oh. wow. thats it? but his end peice is quite powerful.
I find that in this Oro peice especially, the pencils didnt have to be really toned out evreywhere. it was your ability to place/see the face muscles and other surfaces, then the coloring that really gave this peice its punch. good ol anatomy. what do you think? maybe your style
I think im getting hit wit some wicked wisdom. maybe its the coffe talkin. hah

well it took me a long time to feel comfortable skipping some steps--only because I found that with my specific brain patterns--i tend to 'redraw' everything when i paint anyways...so maybe i'm less a 'draw-er' and more a painter? or i just get so bored so quickly i feel the need for change by the time i colour a piece? or maybe i'm talkin' out my arse

i think i may have had a point in there sum wheres...but it seems i've lost it...

i think if i was to colour sum'thin' in a clean animation style - i would def. take the time to draw it out properly--but if its gonna end up a messier type deal..then ...ah..wtf do i know lol

Once agian Joe. Very Very well excecuted.

Every thing works for this image. I really love this- especially the wrinkles and skin texture in his face and the colouing there. You are one of the few artist who i found have really been able to put sprite into your characters renditios using the digital media. You Exploite the Nature of digital to show detail and emphasize from accuratly with Balance. Its not over done. It like you know the rules intuativly, had them honed, and found the ultimate tools to work with. I Really love the INTENT that this character displays; The Intent of the character knowing his full abillity, and the atmosphere being affected by him managing that emnce abillity. Dont know much obout the character but he looks DEADLY to the point where he does not have too touch.
This has Such Tension.

I would pay well for this (if i had the calat...). You really should think about exhibiting sometime.

You catch the age in the neck and face while providing such youth to the muscles and even their strain under his life-flowing chakra/chi. I can almost hear him moaning as he focuses and his two hair twigs slowly flowing with his belt strands.

One thing is for sure, you don't leave a flaming bag of crap on his doorstep.

Nice work man, I thought you would change it in the coloured version, but you didn't so i will say it here:

Adams apple area, a little too wide, like the bottom 10% of that area looks like after thought and can be cut out all together. Plus the top part of the head, i know it's for the style points etc, but it really is a bit too loose. Those are small things though, and I am sure you already saw it.

Other than that i would say it is one of your best ones so far !

I think the key is turning the greyscale to a colourize version with hue/saturation (in pshop)
then it becomes a monochromatic colour...sort of like an underpainting using traditional paint
i also play around with 'levels' and saturation after its flattened
