Description Hi!
I made a tutorial of the mural I painted on my room a few weeks ago. I was going to keep it only in tumblr but eh, this is where the artists are, not? It looks a little loaded with text but I promise you I made it as short as I could while getting straight to the point.

tumblr post (in chunks)

Its my first time doing a tutorial so please let me know if there's anything you need extra clarification with.

Yes, just an ordinary pencil. Watch out to not darken your sketch too much in areas where colors will be very light (yellow, white, pastel colors). If you're painting black likes, go all out, black covers it nicely. Good luck! I'd love to see if you ever do it!

And what do you recommend if you are painting with color and you make a mistake... how do you erase that color?ΒΏ Using white ?ΒΏ

Joyfool In reply to MetallicHell [2015-05-28 13:50:04 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't use white, I would just recolor with the color that is needed. As in, if the banana is painted yellow but now I want it red, I just paint red over it, not white. Depending on what color you're making the transitions from it may need more coats of paint.Β

Very nice tutorial. For your first time tutorial, it's very clear and concise, very easy to follow. Now, if only I can convince my mother to practice on her bedroom wall...I was thinking maybe an Aliens vs. Predator scene

Thank you very much, I'm happy to hear I've done a decent job at my first tutorial!
I wish you luck, if you ever decide to do it. (I'd love to see too!)

What kind of paints did you use? And how did you get them to match your original colors so well? Is there some sort of finish to put on it once you're done or does the paint dry with a matte/gloss finish?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Joyfool In reply to PolandWire [2014-10-07 02:55:56 +0000 UTC]

I use the same paint bought to paint houses (interior/exterior). At my local paint shop I gave them a print of my illustration and they worked with getting the colors asΒ accurateΒ as they could and consulted with me. I didn't use any finish, the paint is just that glossy.

I have a coworker who does murals the same way.. I always thought it was as cool to see a little picture transformed into something huge

also that is a really cool mural and now I want one in my room

Joyfool In reply to StellaStarfish [2014-10-02 19:35:56 +0000 UTC]

I find this the easiest way to do murals, they're just bound to come out identical. ^^
Thank you!!

Wow I wish I could have this on my wall, your lines still look nice even in paint on a wall that probably isn't ultra smooth? XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Joyfool In reply to Nathaniel-Ahryss [2014-10-02 19:37:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Yeah, its a hard wall to work with (no pun intended). Cement haves Β avery irregular surface and made the lines very difficult to work with. The thinnest lines were so scary XD

Ah, I wish I could do this. My room at home was already painted solid bright colors, and since I don't know how long my mom plans to continue living there.. It would be sad to do a project and not get to stay with it.
...Currently I'm in a rental for school--don't think the landlord would appreciate it xD

Great tutorial! I really love 'wall art' if you can say so XD Last year i drew on my own wall, but sadly it's not that flat so the painting is very hard to control :s

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Joyfool In reply to Paloway [2014-09-30 22:50:00 +0000 UTC]

Ah I understand. This wall has a screw for a frame, a tiny unexplainable hole, a crack that goes from top to bottom and power plug. Plus its cement, it's terribly uneven.
