In the midst of a Political and Religious discussion between the Prophets and Thel'Vadam about safeguarding the Halo, the Covenant was unable to coordinate a convincing response in due time to the release of the parasite "Flood" that infected both humans and the troops sent Through the Covenant, as all the chaos invaded the facility, the Master Chief and Cortana managed to activate the self-destruction of the "Pillarof Autumn" and escape just before a chain detonation that destroyed Thel'Vadam's ring and honor.
