Description
I named my display board 'Combined Arms' because it showcases the alliance between the Tau and my Ultramarines. In the new rule book they are battle brothers so I build a board accordingly.Unfortunately at the voting I only took third place. This is my last time participating in Games Workshop held events due to biased voting. The voting is meant to be based on skill/talent/effort yet the voting at this GW store is always a popularity contest. When the manager walks with you outside as you are leaving and says "For what it is worth man your board was the best, honestly the guy who got first just had more friends in there voting for him. This won't happen if you take your board to Games Day." You know something is up.
Nonetheless the board turned out great, Austin over at Brush 4 Hire ([link] took the photos and helped considerably with the board design and board painting. If you have not checked us out on Facebook and YouTube please be sure to, we'd love to have your feedback and comments as well.

I'm surprised I didn't see your army in the White Dwarf magazine!

I could tell you why, though I won't dig up my emails for exact quotes, however Games Workshop told me in my communications with them that because I used after market products that they don't produce (custom resin bases, muzzle flashes, non-GW Xenos terrain) that they could not use any of my images. This is not the first time either, I sent them photos of individual models (some of which were on this board) and got the same reply.
Furthermore, the in house contest is a popularity contest, I was out voted because I drove 45 minutes to a store where no one knows me, the board that took first place was 'good' but not even close to what mine had on it. I realize as well this sound like a 'sore loser' complaint but when the second place board also had more votes than my entry and was simply a 2x2 slab with a bunch of bikes on it, it was clear the community there did not like a studio designed board/staff coming into the location to compete.
Simply put, voting should be handled from a non-biased perspective, this is the second contest at GW-Winston Salem that I've entered and failed to win in simply because the voting is done by the people in the store (and their friends, wives, kids, etc whom are there at the time of the voting). In essence at the armies on parade voting if you came with 20 friends (who might not even know what 40k is) you could have had them vote for your board so you could win, makes the 'contest' bit pointless.
Nonetheless, I am flattered you thought my entry was worth of being in White Dwarf

Check us out here: [link] we just wrapped up a kickstarter and we will be selling those Aegis Lines (and terrain similar to that board as well as other things) in the near future. We have different color inserts too. In this video I shot: [link] you can see the aegis line (unpainted) with 2 of the colors we have (and we have much more than that).

Also part of our aegis line, in that video I show the two colors I have (though I think I am going to pick up the orange color instead). Seriously, check the facebook out if you get some time, you'll see what we've been working on. Our Aegis lines will come with the colored inserts of your choice

Thanks, when I get access to the photos of the other contestants I will post them up, I've been asked about that a lot.

Not only they are battle bruvas, the tau is now under ultramar protectorate. No "speak not onto an alien" here

Considering the Tau were designed by the Eldar to be a speed bump for the Tyranids and considering the Ultramarines' history with the Tyranids the alliance seems to have some merit to it.

It sure is. Mentioning the tyranids, chaos worshipers, necrons and that kind of stuff. Tau/eldar and ork alliances do look pretty reasonable. In fact that most of those kind of fighting for a survival (except orks), there is a reason to prioratize threats. And they still can murder each other's faces after they've done with that
