Description A variation on my original logon skin for Gmail.

Not so much a skin for FireFox as a skin for a site that you can use with FireFox 1.5. This one skins the logon page for Gmail (well google actually I suppose).

To use, unzip the attached file into the chrome foler in your firefox profile folder [link] . Go to your firefox profile folder/chrome and edit userContent.css. If there isn't a userContent.css you can just create one with nothing in it. Then, at the very top of this file add the following line:

@import url("gmail_logon1.css");

Restart firefox and all should be well. If it isn't, make sure you were in the right profile folder, that you put the import at the very top and that you entered it exactly as it is shown above, that gmail_logon.css is where you think it is, that you're using FireFox 1.5 etc. etc.

Note that the screenshot includes a background image (the wavy blue thing) which isn't in the download. To add a background image edit the CSS file - you'll find a big old comment about what to do right near the top.

Uhh. Doesn't work for me, period. I've tried it so many different ways it's insane. Not "great". Terrible instructions, and well, just doesn't work for me.

I actually found another one, don't mind last comment, but I still can't get it to work, and I've followed instructions quite a few times.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Wow, looks great on the screen shot, and it was fairly easy to get it to work (just a bit of tweaking). However, I am having trouble getting the login box centered. It is staying over on the right, where it is when the gmail page is normal. And it is also smaller than what you have (the same size as the default gmail login box) and all the gmail text is still there. Is there something I am doing wrong? I followed everything you said and tried to tweak a few things myself, but nothing seems to work.

is there a way to make a background that is base64 encoded and put it in the css file?

judge In reply to TheGman1988 [2006-01-13 07:46:33 +0000 UTC]

Yes. But it would be HUGE. If you want to do it load your image up to [link] and save the resulting file to somewhere. Then open it in a text editor and copy it into the CSS file using a format like that used for the other inline image URLs in there.
