Description
Ok, I promise I won't draw more Captain Underpants (who am I kidding? I make no promises. If I'm having fun, don't tell me what I can and can't draw).Drew George and Harold blaring 6 hours of Weird Al Yankovic songs over the intercom. Being a fan of Weird Al myself, I can appreciate this prank they pulled in the first book. Thought it would be funny if Krupp caught them while they were playing "Fat".

I was hoping that they might have a scene like this in the actual movie to reference that prank in the first book. X3 At least the Captain Underpants theme done by Weird Al himself works as perfect justice for what I think was always meant to be! ^3^

Yea, i never really read the first book growing up (we only had the one with Prof. P and the Alien Lunchladies), but I did some research after I saw the movie, and checked out the first book from the library. I thought the nod to Weird Al was awesome! But hey, there's always the sequel!

Indeed there is! ^^ ... At least, I hope there's a sequel in the works. Not only is there the fact that the movie didn't make an overwhelming amount of money at the box office, despite earning back double its budget, but there's also the fact of whether or not Dav Pilkey himself would condone it. It took a VERY long time for Dreamworks to get him to let them make a Captain Underpants movie, and just last year, the Captain Underpants book series came to a definitive conclusion with the twelfth and final book in the series, Captain Underpants and the Sensational Saga of Sir Stinks-a-Lot. Dav seems to be focusing more on the Dog Man books now, so even if Dreamworks was able to make a Treehouse Comix cinematic universe, so to say, they would need Dav's permission first and foremost in order for that to happen.

I would like to see a sequel, I thought Dreamworks did an amazing job capturing the spirit of the books. It also didn't help that it came out around the same time as Wonder Woman.

They really did! ^^ You could tell they were very committed to doing the books as much justice as possible. Plus, according to his YouTube channel description, Dav Pilkey was VERY happy with how the movie turned out! He even commented on how they gave Mr. Krupp a bit of humanity, which he admitted he probably should have done in the books. Now THAT is going above and beyond! ;D
Yeah, the release date decision was kind of a poor choice. Even if Wonder Woman's critical reception was a total surprise, what isn't a surprise is how much money it was destined to make at the box office. Say what you will about the DCEU, but their movies have raked in a TON of cash, putting pretty much the entirety of the MCU's Phase One movies to shame, financially speaking. Captain Underpants couldn't possibly have stood a chance against Wonder Woman... Or even Cars 3, for that matter, seeing as how much of a cash cow the Cars franchise is for Disney and all. They were really put in a tight spot with this one, weren't they?

That's cool that Dav liked it!
I heard they switched CU's release date with the Boss Baby. Because Boss Baby was SOOOO good it had to come out first. If they had released CU at the time Boss Baby came out, I think it would've faired better financially.

It is indeed! ^^ And yeah, that would have likely been the case... Though I'm sure they were probably still putting the finishing touches on Captain Underpants when they released The Boss Baby, so maybe it was for the best. Who can tell, really?
