Description
got my hands on a bunch of the mk4 models today and decided to make them posable, so here's seven of them (jax, kai, lao, liu, noob, shinnok, and sub-zero) with a very basic posing armature. they're free for you to do whatever you want with, including any and all upgrades. have fun and read the info below if you plan on doing anything with them!note: this isn't one of my official artwork model releases, these are just for people to mess around with. i might do upgrades eventually
model source: artist-3d.com/free_3d_models/d…
individual pics of each model in the t-pose: imgur.com/a/RRWRZL7
the rest of the mk4 ones that have already been ported: www.deviantart.com/scorpion-mi… shout out to scorpion-mileena for those
detailed info:
-their posing armatures (made new) are adjusted to match the mkx t-pose format, in both pose and scale. (the preview has their arms down at their sides so they'll all fit in the pic!) they're super simple, following what the original game had. these models work like ball-jointed dolls, not the full rigged models you're probably used to
-the textures are 256 x 256, converted from bmp to png format. if you want to make them more HD, run them through waifu2x.booru.pics/ which is how i get my hi-res textures. the texture images are upside down for everybody except sub, they were like that
-the armatures are named with right/left at the end, for symmetrical blender editing (i.e. 'arm shoulder 2 right' not 'arm right shoulder 2'). this will make it way easier if you plan to work with these models to upgrade them in any way
-faces aren't rigged and not worth it to try. feel free to borrow one of the justthehead.mesh files from my models if you feel like doing a swap

good luck and have fun!

Yeah, and having the ones used for the cinematics (or, their not optimized versions) would be even cooler isn't?

Well I believe these were the models, but they probably used filters and all that for the cutscenes in fmv

As far as i know, usually the companies make high quality models for the cynematics, then they use optimizing option for lowering the polycount so the game could proceed quicker. Older system couldn't stand too many vertices analyzed at the same time. Now, that isn't a problem anymore (usually) so models from nowadays games like mk11 are super high poly. For example, if you analyze a model from a console/pc game and the same model from the psp version you will see that's the same model but with lower resolution of textures and lower (much lower) number of verts.

Well mostly because the arcade was much more powerful than the consoles, if you compare the mk4 arcade to mkg which is the closest to the arcade, you will notice the dreamcast version is still not perfect as the arcade, the arcade has bump map which was something amazing for the time, the dreamcast idk why but it doesnt have that, in fact, it also dont have the smoke coming out of the prison stage which is something that is present in the arcade, doesnt have lighting in the continue pit, in the arcade version i noticed that you start with the screen all bright and then you reach the bottom and the pit gets all dark, there are a lot of details but today there are barely any differences at all x3

Probably many companies now don't even have anymore the original versions. The reason for example that beamdog never did Icewind daleII enhanced edition. The company who made the original version doesn't have anymore the project files. (or at least that's what they claim). Too bad. I always desired to have the high quality model of MK4 Quan-Chi. Ah well.

Hmm, mkx has Quan Chi with his MKM outfit which is basically the same thing as MK4

Yeah, they were bad only when they were ported to the consoles that they lost a lot of details, but in the arcades they were actually pretty good
