They're nothing but slobbering mangy stupid poachers - baby ones.So now we know. Simba found a group of unattended hyena cubs.
The last panel is inspired by HydraCarina 's baby hyenas in The First King, page 51 . They're sooo cuute <33 but I don't do any sort of hyena justice though.

Heh cute. But I'll make a slight correction, hyenas have cubs much like lions do ;3. Hyenas are of the Feliforma family *more closely related to the Mongoose family* and not Canines so they don't have pups :>.
