Description
As I've said in my tutorial, this is not the manner in which I normally colour. It is my attempt in "faking" the look that traditionally coloured copic-markers might produce. There are most
likely better ways to achieve this, but here is my first attempt in this manner, and my very first tutorial ever about
the steps I took during this process.
Pencils by Emiliano Santalucia
Sketch done for Alex Hawkey

For one moment their, I thought my character Scorpisha had this girl's name. Lawsuit 1/2. No, Scorpisha is imspired by this girl too!

A very good tutorial to produce an effect I can never do by hand, and much cheaper as well. Nicely explained. I especially like how you still put in some 'mistakes' like going over the lines here and there. Very nice

Yes well like I've said.....it's a step-by-step process, so it has flaws.
Were it an actual tutorial from me, then I would have retentively made it perfect in all the possibly angles I could think of.

Nice tut. The end result is similar to what I see in some anime images.
And yay! It's in a program that I use! >3

Hey Jukka!
This Is Perfect For Me Since I'm A PSP User Myself!
Just So You Know,
The One You Show'd Is For Version 7!(V.7)
I Use Version 7 At Times But I Mostly Use Version 8
Now!(Since Version 10)
Now,Would This Work For Version 8 As Well!?
Also,
Do You Have A Tutoria For Cell Shading,Huh!?
(Cell Shade Like You See In Most Cartoons & Anime Today,
Which Is Mostly The Look That I'm After! )

I would think this applies to slightly older and newer versions of PSP....or translate to PS. Method is quite simple there.
And I think you can find a cel-shading tutorial on DeviantArt if you search enough.

It looks awesome though, I can see why its on the most popular.

I don't really get it... Not that I'm criticizing, but why would you want to fake it? I mean, if it's because Copic markers are expensive, there are cheaper alcohol markers. I mean, if it's a 'just because I can' thing, I guess I can understand that.

Jukkart In reply to Fangyuzhe [2006-09-07 22:22:58 +0000 UTC]
It's more about the look of it.
I've always loved those old children's book-illustrations that are done with water-colours or markers.
My friend is excellent with colouring in copic-markers, and while I haven't found any copic-markers in Finland, and have indeed heard that they are expensive, I still wanted to see how a picture would look in colour done by me in that style.
Were there enough time, I might use this "fake-style" to colour many illustrations, but it is too time-consuming for me to do on a regular basis, no matter how much I admire the style, look and feel of it.

Wonderful tutorial, I had no idea you could achieve a Copic-look with Photoshop! Will definitely have to try this sometime, as my skills with Copics are seriously lacking.
I do notice, however, that you call her green makeup 'mascara,' when it's actually eyeshadow. Mascara is used on eyelashes. However, a quick peek at your profile reveals that you are male, and therefore wouldn't be expected to know.

Jukkart In reply to Tomecko [2006-09-07 21:59:50 +0000 UTC]
Yes, though as an male-artist who draws and colours women, I should know it. Except that I actually refer to the entire area around eyes having work done as "mascara". It can be eye-line, eyelids...anything close to that area.

Yeah but that was for a pin-up. Now let's see one for sequentials.
...you expect me to settle for only one tutorial from you?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GarryHenderson In reply to Jukkart [2006-09-07 19:57:52 +0000 UTC]
Hahaha, I don't really do anything different though for sequentials.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Jukkart In reply to GarryHenderson [2006-09-07 20:02:04 +0000 UTC]
Well I would think it's a whole another nature of a beast, because sequentials are about setting a mood and putting people in that same environment.
Pin-ups only have a character with a white backround. That is easy. Anyone can do that.

GarryHenderson In reply to Jukkart [2006-09-07 20:08:18 +0000 UTC]
Oh...you mean you wanna know my mood secrets! lol, I'd confuse myself and everyone else if I tried to explain how I did moods, especially since I use different techniques depending on the mood. I'll see what I can do, but I guarantee after you see how I do em you'll be all "WTF?"

Jukkart In reply to saturnangel [2006-09-07 19:50:54 +0000 UTC]
Well the same thing most likely applies to Photoshop. It's easy to re-create methods in PS that have been used on PSP, but not so easy other way around as I've noticed.
(been reading tons of PS-tutorials, and then trying to see it work in PSP)

saturnangel In reply to Jukkart [2006-09-07 19:56:48 +0000 UTC]
Ah. Yeah, I figure it would be easy to "translate" some of them, but I've never actually gotten around to trying it... (I use PSP 8 for my graphic designing needs, which is why I happened to notice this further. )

Yes...and when that day comes, it will be well-planned ahead, with no spelling-errors, and describe fully every step of the way for everyone to understand.
This...what we have here is only the step-of-making-process where someone looms over my shoulder and sees me doing stuff, but won't understand any of it, as I can't translate it to them.
