Prior to the Archemperor rediscovering the derelict dreadnaught that would become his flagship, a faint telepathic whisper called out from the blackness of intergalactic space. Lost for tens of thousands of years following the catastrophic events of the Ascension, the ship was found completely dead and lifeless, save for the massive supercomputer in the bridge was still kept running by its own tachyonic power generators. The supercomputer housed a state-of-the-art Artificial Intelligence, the most advanced ever developed by the old empire, tasked with performing complex calculations for the astronomical distances of intergalactic astrogation.

By the time it was rediscovered, the onboard AI had attained self-awareness. No longer slaved to its primary programming, it raged violently upon making contact with the Hierarchy, trapping its visitors within the bridge that it had turned into a pocket dimension, demanding to be released from its cyber prison. The Archemperor recognized that the AI was touched by the same powers that made them into the horrors they had become, that it did not attain sentience and its reality-altering powers through natural means. Eventually the rogue AI was subdued, returning the supercomputer to its primary functions. But the contact inevitably transfigured the supercomputer along with the ship, becoming a supernatural aberration, and a superweapon that would sow untold terror to the cosmos beyond.

In gratitude, the conscious entity exhumed from the supercomputer eventually became one of the Hierarchs.
