From what little info I can gather from Synod communications chatter, there was an attempt to engage the Hierarchy during their transit into the 2nd Sphere of Influence. Rail cannons, firing projectiles at a fraction of the speed of light were fired to no effect at the approaching vessels. It was as if the shots simply went through them according to the reports.

Not surprising since the Hierarchy are capable of prescience. Part of their vessels' technology is to be able to make precise calculations that take future events into account. They knew when and where the projectiles were coming, and simply allowed them to pass through via dimensional distortions, another marvel of Hierarchy superscience that even I cannot fully fathom. Even to Synod standards, those things seemed like sorcery.

The order for hostile engagement did not come from the Synod, at least not directly, but from the authority of the Sol Space Command. A clandestine authority under humanity's secret space program, possessing technologies several centuries ahead of current publicly known human technological progress. The high council knew that they could not do much to stop the advance of the Hierarchy, yet allowed the SSC to engage anyway, perhaps leading to the obliteration of countless installations and loss of many lives. In truth, the Synod have always treated humanity as cannon fodder for their very own esoteric agendas. In times of crisis, their priority is mainly to protect their own interests.

I do hope somewhere out there, some of us have managed to flee the system. But to be real, where are they going to go? The corruption spreads in all directions. The only way out is through the MTN, or the Multiversal Transit Network, which of course is reserved only for the upper echelons of the Synod.

I wouldn't be surprised if the high council has already left at this point.
