Description

INTO THE ABYSS - 1st ENVOY'S JOURNAL - LOG 850

The Epicentrum went far deeper underground than expected. The sub-levels closer to the surface were mostly a honeycomb of reliquaries, archives, and maintenance sectors. But the lower I go, the more unusual everything becomes.

At first I didn't think much of it. Then I noticed the bizarre layout that seems to contradict the utilitarian nature of the upper sub-levels. Lots of empty rooms and halls, corridors that led to nowhere, doors that open to dead ends and in places that do not make sense.

The deeper I went, the emptier the levels became, save for light fixtures, furniture that seem out of place, and the trail of gore that I have been following since. Eventually the levels and rooms become devoid of any designations or indicators. The walls here are but blank concrete as if it were a construction site.

Eventually I came across a large cavernous hall-like structure that opened to a massive stairwell that seem to go on forever down below; like that of a lighthouse except this one goes down instead. From here on, the aesthetics of the structure fully transitions into something that I can only describe as surreal and grotesque; very reminiscent of Hierarchy architecture.

Did the Hierarchy built this? Or has it been here ever since? Judging from its looks, I have a hunch that this structure was a recent construction.

As I peered into the depths below, the spiral staircase eventually becomes obscured by a pale haze of light, preventing me from seeing far beyond. At this point, even at the top, the booms have become significantly intense as pressure waves rush upwards with every pulse, creating a brief vacuum followed by a sudden howl of air rushing downwards. I have no doubt that its source must lie at the very bottom of this colossal stairwell.

I must thread carefully as I descend. I imagine being flung by the pressure waves may not be the worst thing I might encounter towards the end of this stairwell.
