Description
This is the digitally tweaked version of what the original painting will look like. Its mostly to meet the IMC deadline. BUT I will be working on this in my studio over the next day or two to make sure its polished and show worthy. I also need to build a frame, hehe.Related content

*nerd moment*
Barsoom only had clouds at the poles!

But seriously freak'n great work. John Carter's jumping skills are often ignored in favor of having him stand there looking heroic, so it's nice to see that so well portrayed.

Haha, its all good. I read the book before I painted it, but it is not unlike me to forget something like that. And thanks! I did two paintings for this, the first one will never see the light of the day I vouched for the jumping one because it allowed for a more interesting composition and a lot more room for tharks.

you know, i had the almost same layout for my Artifice piece.
When I sent it to Dos Santos for a review he asked why I had a big hole in the center where all the action should be taking place.
i was crushed and had to finish the whole thing digitally since i would have had to start from scratch to move the figures and stuff.
i'm not sure if i've helped at all here...
other than that, push the darks in the foreground and cool down the background to push those mountain back. they are almost more saturated than the ground under the princess.

Thanks man. Any critique helps, and I'm open to any comments. I'll definitely tackle the background temperature and the other values around to make sure it works. I was an idiot for not sending a jpeg to any of the instructors, except Manchess who never responded, rabble rabble. There's a lot of things I noticed while working on this that I knew I didn't like but changing it that late in the game would have required, as you said, major figure shifts and I'm not as digital savvy. But even so I liked this more than the piece i had in class.
That said, I have learned so much from this one piece as far as story telling and composition, what to do and what not to do, color choices, etc. I have several goals and personal weaknesses to overcome before the year is over. Character/costume design, color, composition... all C related words, haha.
My biggest goal is, after I finish the painting and some other work I'm doing now, to do one single figure piece every two weeks. Focusing my attention on all the elements that create a good painting, and since I want to get into fantasy, a good illustration. I need to juice up my costumes, give my characters more personality, really get some good backgrounds and composition. I actually wanted to ask, would it be possible to join your esteemed sketch group? It would be great getting feedback from fellow IMCers and it'll give me an extra boost of motivation.
