Description
THE RIGHTS TO THIS IMAGE ARE RESERVED BY FRANK FRAZETTA, THE CREATOR OF THE ORIGINAL "SWAMP DEMON" ON WHICH I BASED THIS COPY. it is being displayed here with the expressed permission of Frank Frazettata jr.I did this freehand in acrylic, using the image from my copy of "ICON: Frank Frazetta" in an attempt to learn some of the master's technique and style. In general I think copying is a great way to learn from other artists, though its extremely important to credit them and if possible contact them (as I was luckily able to do here) to get permission before you display it publicly.
Even though its a copy I'm still proud of of some of the stylistic and technical elements I was able to incorporate, especially in the female figure in the foreground. I had some trouble with the big guy's right leg, the acrylic got all sticky and impossible to work so I abandoned it prematurely (from now on I'll just stick to oil paints).
anyway, I hope someone enjoys this as it did take me quite a while to finish, but at the very least I did learn alot.

BTW are you familiar with the work of Ezra Tucker? He subbed for Frazetta on a few covers, and did a LOT of Iron Maiden's work [link] He is a friend of mine

*dies of shock* Erin... you're... you're... commenting on the DA? I thought you'd forgotten the url...
Thanks though. I never could get his right leg to look right, so I abandoned it, but otherwis I'm happy with it. Now I just need to do an original painting.
I saw your self portrait on the painting room wall btw, I think it looks damn good, much better than those hanging up around it (the rest of your class I presume).
anyway, thanks for the comment. you should drop by more often

It's great to learn from the masters that way (I was first taught crosshatch on a Frazetta in fact). I started learning watercolours a few years ago and occasionally do the same thing again (just tried my brush on a Brom last week).
Anyway this is really fantastic, you've gotten some rich colours and great values.

thank you. I mostly did it because I was having trouble developing my own concept and needed something to jump start my work, but I got really into it and wanted to do as well as I could on it.
your crosshatching is awesome btw

through their website, [link] He was really nice about it actually, I would've felt really awkward showing it without his consent

I went there but it says the link is incorrect. I didn't realize there would be a site where you could actually contact these high and mighty art people.
