As someone has requested, I made prints available for this image. But looking at the prices and what I get from those, DA prints is such a rip off for both you guys and me.... So if any of you wants prints, I think I can get better price at a print store (and better quality, since I can test print and see if the colors are correct!) note me so I can get some prices and get prints made. I haven't tried this before, but I think we can get it worked out just fine

This is my digital painting class final. I wanted to do something high-fantasy themed
I was hoping to render it even more, but with the time I had only this much was possible...
Hope you like it!
NOTE for the nerds out there; it's "Melf's Acid Arrow" that the dwarven sorcerer's casting -one of my fav spells XD
And yes, the dwarf is not a fighter, but is casting spells.. Long live dwarven sorcerers!!! X3

The perspective (size of the characters is hard to define) since they are all different sizes, destroys this a bit for me.

try doing a series of small sketches to come up with ideas and blow some up and finish them like you did with this one? i just really like teh way you executed this painting. the colours and the focal points are just THERE. very well done!

hehe i kinda did that here too, did a small thumbnail, blew it up and refined it on computer. then lay down basic values and then took it to color ( i didnt do a value painting though).
laying down the basic values in black&white really helped me get the focal points down before i started painting. when i knew where the lights and darks are, the painting became much more easier

that sounds like a great way to work. personally i alwyas love that sketchy feel that small and loose sketches have so when i blow them up and create more a more defined painting it looks so awckward for somereason. that's why i'm stuck with speedpainting. i guess it'll come after lots of preactice and get it right like you someday. cus i'm aware of focal points and other things a painting should always have to make it work except i just don't know how to actually do that on the painting, so i end up just doing a random one lol
but yeah the method you explained is great!

when u blow up the thumbnail, there's no way to capture the same mood, and since there are no details in the thumb, you always have to improve and add to the drawing. don't try to be precise with your sketch, use it as a guideline. maybe that might help.

yeah that's exaclty what happens. I always see sketches as the fundamental step into a good painting. Maybe liek you said its better to use that as a guide and build on top of it.

*nod nod* you cant really capture the movement of a sketch with paint, so no reason to pull your hair out trying to get the exact feeling from it
