The idea dawned on me that I have never really tackled any artworks with Mortal Kombat's characters. Thinking it was about time I did so, I had originally intended to just use the latest costume designs as the basis for this illustration but wanting to exercise some design muscles thought it would be fun to do a re-design.ΒRelated content

oh i meant the concept that looks kinda like a monk.Β first glance at him kinda makes me think donovan from the darkstakler series. it's certainly not a way i would have taken the design myself but it is an interesting idea of where to take it.Β in general i like the piece.Β your lighting and shadows are superb and well done.

I'm glad you picked up on the monk influence, I had intended that. Taking the design down a less conventional route I guess. A big emphasis was placed on the lighting and shadows so it means a lot that you think they're superb.

hehe. yeah, i generally don't think monks when i think ninja. though i did design my own monk- Β Β though i haven't done much with her beyond this image so far.

The fun of re-designing an established character is that you can really do what you want with them. Its also a great exercise in seeing what you can come up with. I like you monk design, reminds me a lot of the Diablo 3 character, perhaps you've drawn some inspiration from that? It'd be worth it to keep working on it

nah, it was an ova series. so it wasn't one meant for tv.Β like a movie but cut into pieces?Β not sure but it kinda felt similar to the rorouni kenshin ova that initially got cut up into four pieces and then hooked up into one movie, though that never happened with dark stalkers from what i saw

Sounds like it would have been similar to afro samurai. That's the only example I can think of that was partly a whole movie that got cut up into different episodes.
