There's a piece just like this at the Ghetty Villa museum here in Southern California; its a tiled piece of a lion biting into a mule in nearly the exact pose in this picture.
Was this referanced from that? Or was it purely accidental? I swear, they're nearly identical.

I love the metaphoric touch to this image... The lion, attacking the unicorn in hopes of becoming king of the jungle as he is now. Its so pretty.

Actually my main influence for this one was the French sculptor Antoine Louis Barye. He was active in the 17th and 18th century and his work is awesome and dynamic and a little melodramatic. check it out! > [link]
