What a cute dog, may I ask is the colour due to scanning? I think this would look better either in colour (you have BW film, so not a possibility) or pure BW.

Hmm, I always make a note to play around with the colour settings. Generally the prints come out with a yellowy tint after scanning which grinds my gears, so subsconsciously I try to get as far away from that as possible. I'm not sure what you mean by "pure" B/W or how that is achievable in photoshop? Thanks

Completely desaturing the image in photoshop (if you use it). Image -> adjustments -> desaturate.
