Description

"Orpheus and Eurydice." Acrylic on Linen 30cm×30cm

I've been sick with a virus this last week, painted this in small sessions to pass the time.

Below is a Chatgpt short version of the myth,(because I'm sick and can't be bothered writing it out) for those who might be unfamiliar.

" After losing his beloved wife Eurydice, Orpheus, gripped by grief, embarked on a daring quest to the Underworld to reclaim her. Armed with his lyre and captivating voice, he gained entry, compelling even the stoic Hades to tears. Hades agreed to release Eurydice, with one condition: Orpheus must not look back until they reached the world of the living.

With hope resonating in his heart, Orpheus led Eurydice towards the surface. The closer they came to the exit, the more his anticipation swelled. Unable to resist, Orpheus glanced back the moment he stepped into the living realm. In that fleeting moment, he saw Eurydice, but the joy was short-lived. She was abruptly pulled back into the depths of the underworld, lost once again to the shadows."
