This is a first for me.Going back and redoing and existing painting. Eep!
OK first of all for those who haven't this is the first attempt.

Based an image [link] the beautiful and talented was kind enough to let me paint.
So why do it again? A number of reasons.
First of all after having so much fun with the dark background in pastels, I thought I'd see what difference it made wiht oils. So I could tell what difference it made more easily, I used an image I'd done before to compare.
Secondly I allways thought it would look better round this way. I'm not sure if it really does, but there you go.

I have used this painting for a shcool assignment. I was supposed to take a photo and make it as similar as i could to a painting. And i used this one. Oil on Canvas, mostly one layer but with a few glazes over the top. mostly for reflected lights

Beautiful. I just had my oil paints returned to me after nearly a decade of being without them, and the first night I had them back I had to paint. The smell is like the scent of a lover; intoxicating and damning.
I have been online for a while looking for something to help me put my muse into something tangable. Your painting has really helped, thank you so much.

I don't mind at all, its a deceptively simple image, much harder then I thought it would be.
I would strongly suggest either enlarging by squares or projecting (if you have access to a projector) the outline on, as you will learn a lot about drawing using those methods, and it will help you learn to do it by eye much faster.

hah i had not seen your 2nd version, and wow, I love it ! and the the WIP animation is pretty awesome.. I'm really impressed.. especially the wisp of hair, it looks lifelike !

I've spilt the crowd with the second version, some people prefere the first one because it has more movement, some the second because it is more calm.

This has to be my favourite in your gallery.
The deep red contrasts so vividly with the pale skin and gives the whole painting such an impact, and the small details like the light shining on those few strands of hair pull you right back into the painting. Wonderful!
