Description
Michelle is a former partner and good friend of mine (as mentioned in my rant about the prevous painting of her, the aptly named Michelle part 2).Anyone who has an image of the female sex as frail submissive little things has obviously not known the women I have known.
Michelle is 5'11" (181 cm) tall, a veternary nurse, buddist, rave bunny, circus perfomer and recovering hardcore gym junky, amongst other things.
Here she is in all her glory, tall, strong and graceful, complete with tan line and a few wierd kinks in some of her bones and muscles from injurys sustained from 10 years of cross country horse racing, which ended more then once with her under the horse.
The only detail I have left out is is her tattoos, which I've done for reasons of keeping the colour scheme as simple as possible, although I will one day make a work including them.
Photo has been updated, looking a bit cleaner now

It's Oils on canvas, 150cm X 55cm so the figure is slightly bigger then life size

you should check this out, [link] your portraits of the human back are very nice, so sculpted, and the tones are always so complementary too
i like thr brightness of this one, it's vibrant but not harsh, and still has the soft quality that most of your other paintings carry

Instant favorite. And I'm certainly not kidding - this is one of my top three on this entire site. Beautiful brushwork! I love the little stories that you leave as your artist comment, but the way you captured this, all of it would have come across without being said. It would be interesting to see the tattoos, but I'm glad you left them out this time. The natural effect (intensified by that remarkable use of light) does wonders. This brightened my day. As always, an immense pleasure.

Once in a while, a piece of art takes my breath away and makes it all worth it. This is one of those times. This is literally breathtaking!
The size of canvas really accentuates the length of her body. It's soft yet powerful. The skin, the light, the red fabric - everything! Definitely a fave.

I'm very happy with it, been thinking about that image for a while now, finally came to me how to handle it. Without any false modesty at all, I'm feel I'm just starting to learn to paint, have made quite a lot of changes to my technique, and for the first time I'm starting to get a bit of confidence in my skill. I've tackled hard paintings before, but it was REALLY hard, like seriously almost quit and left them sitting there a few times, having no idea how to progress, which is a situation I don't find myself in much anymore, so its time I push my level up again

I really admire the intimacy you share with everyone who views your art.
And I also love the respect you have for women- whether former lover's or friends. Obviously in spite of differences and break-ups, you seem to be great with moving on without holding onto any bitterness, and that's a very strong and admirable characteristic.
I find this to be beautiful and tender.

I do get along pretty well with nearly all my ex's, which is important to me in a lot of levels, allthough Michelle herself is now living back in NZ, so I don't really have that much to do with her lately, which is a shame

I'm getting the hang of the cloth, is actaully not that hard once you work it out. well not in comparision to facial portraits anyways
