I look across my table and then
look away...
13? Black Jack? What game shall it be today?
13, he says.
ace, two, three, four, I couldn't care less what cards I received.
I see a single card fly from his hand and land gracefully onto the blank table. King of hearts, eh?
but oh. what to do. what if I lose again this time? no,
I won't lose.
I hear a voice next to me, whispering softly,
"I played the king, so what are you gonna do now?"
there was a level of equal uncertainty and impatience in his tone.
I shuffle through my hand. Queen of hearts.
also couldn't care less if Queen isn't good enough.
"Okay then," he says,
"I'll be your king,
and you
can
be
my
queen."
and, without warning, he sweeps me off my feet, just like that,
like Charming did to his Cinderella,
and whisks me in his arms, carrying me through the hall and
walking towards the end of the corridor.
what a cheesy scene, I think to myself.
but why?
because in a cloud of smoke, he suddenly vanishes and I'm left here,
stranded
lonely
cold...
yet in the small remnants of your smile
your warmth
your comfort.
I look down to my feet and there I see it.
somewhat broken and shattered like glass,
the Joker has gotten to me.
oh my, what another childish ending.
I vow to never play the same game again. nobody had told me
the game of life was such a risky one. not even you, when you had known
all along.
until the day you come back running into my arms
until the day I hear you say once more, "what game shall it be today?"
until the day when I shiver not of cold, but of something called 'love'...
I promise you, I'll be here.
but then what's the point of waiting when I know you won't be back?
I'll wait forever, because having to live in high hopes and repeatedly mutter to myself,
'I miss you,'
is just about the only thing that truly breaks my heart.

It had to be asked, I had no choice. Time's gonna end soon, and I'm afraid I will too, at this rate..
He said,
''Hahha. I've been trying all this time to give it to you. Will you remember me? Tell me you will.''
And with a genuine smile, he vanished. I was cured of my condition, and he was gone.
