Description

Pictured here is a female Velvet Ant about to enter a wasp burrow. The males were close by, as it is mating season. I think they are parasitoids, so the female was entering the wasp burrow to lay her fertilized eggs.

I've spent a lot of time trying to photograph Velvet Ants, and I am super happy to finally get one in focus. They are speedy critters and always on the go.
