Slickrete's face had a lot of different versions. No eyes, sunnies, creepy dot eyes. Feedback from Fauxlens helped narrow it down.
The shell on its back is supposed to look like a biker's spike helmet .

This might seem a bit late but perhaps you could give it eye stalks and see if that gives a better result.

I'm pretty settled on the eyes at this point though I did tinker around with stalks in the beginning. Having the eyes further apart made it derpy d:

Why not give it Diglett/Dugtrio style eyes? Makes the face less creepy than a 'dot' eye.

lol you're probably right. I do have a few other Diglett-eyed Pokes that have yet to be sprited, but one more shouldn't be a problem.
I originally was avoiding cutesy eyes since it'd be used by the Biker trainer class, which are kinda sleezy.

I don't think it'd be TOO cutesy with them. I mean, Dugtrio looks 'cutesy' but also angry, so you could always go Dugtrio over Diglett to make it look p*ssed, haha
