Description So, this is a photograph of the art, so some areas may appear lighter than others. Also, just in case you notice that the lines aren't exactly horizontal, just want to say that those are indeed horizontal in the original piece, I just apparently am not a great photographer haha.Β

I only used graphite pencils, sharpie markers (ultra fine line and normal), and woodless colored pencils.

My main inspiration came from the idea of Pantheism, so I tried to incorporate related symbolism. Loved how the arms came out and I already have several more ideas to sketch out in the near future.

This piece of art is just stunning. So many details, I cant even describe! Its amazing, the colours are gorgeously used, and it has many meanings.... Universe, animals, climate, space (its what i see) This reminds me of dreams, nightmares, life... And its realistic! Its unique, artistic, original, different... I've never seen anything like this, its absolutely fantastic!
I love how you used coloured pencils and, suddently, a bit of charcoal!
Just perfect, everything....
This is actual art, talent! This should be in a museum, actually!
You are an extremely talented artist, really! Love the arms, so much detail.. Bravo!

One of the most potent images I've come across in a long time. I'm really taken with the ideas behind this and it's presentation is just spectacular. The use of color is extremely powerful - the cool tones of the main subject really enforce the being's presence when laid upon the warmth behind it.

The intricacy in the face is both impressive and contribute to the overall power in the sentient being and it's quite intimidating! It holds a feeling of stability and fine balance between the known and unknown. This is reinforced with the lovely layering - the greyscale against the flares, such a wonderful contrast.

The only thing I can find as a fault (and it's really a very minor criticism) and therefore only gave 4.5 stars on technique; I feel his arms aren't entirely symmetrical. The rest of the piece seems to be, and the arm on the right seems to sit much lower than the other. It kinda makes me feel his 'posture' is off. But this is the only thing I can pick up on.

This is a wonderfully unique, one of a kind piece with an excellent combination of mediums, all synchronising and harmonising into the beauty that it is. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="357" title="Heart"/>

Oh my, thank you so so much for an amazing, wonderfully written critique. Yeah, for the posture, I imagined the being slightly being turned, not really sure why haha. You can kinda tell towards the bottom right side of the owl's neck as well, how the design is drawn to show it receding due to the neck being slightly turned. In retrospect though, I do agree with you, it would've been better to just keep the owl facing forward and the arms symmetrical. I think I mainly wanted to add the turn in posture only because I sometimes get lazy when doing symmetry, so it allowed me some freedom from being "perfect" haha. Thank you so much again, your critique really means a lot

It's my first critique! But I wanna try giving a bit back to the dA community I had so much help when I first started out and I want to return the favour. I'm really glad you liked it though! In a way, it's practice for me
Now that you've pointed that out, I can kinda see how he is turned. Though I stand by my opinion of the symmetry is a very powerful feature in this. It makes him look so omnipotent and immovable. But it's really not a big hang up, honestly, it took me like 10 mins to find something to suggest as a 'criticism' ha! I totally get that when drawing - it always seems so much easier!
I hope you don't mind me saying so - I didn't want this to be in the critique - but the image is very in tune with what hallucinations appear to be during the use of spiritual hallucinogenics, in particular, dimethyltryptamine (DMT). You can read trip reports on Erowid, and this seems to be an exceptionally accurate image of it. I didn't want to imply anything, but I find it interesting.

(I just had a look through your gallery and see Β quite a few images seem to play true to this. Watched.)

Wow, yeah, I looked through a few reports on that site, I can see what you're saying. I actually mentioned to this to a friend who was cutting my hair the other day and it gave us quite a laugh - the idea that my imagination resembles that of an acid trip. Hmm, kind makes me wonder if there has ever been someone who saw my work and thought maybe I do drugs, haha. I used to focus purely on conceptual style drawings, but for a couple years now I've been doing mainly abstract and trying to give an interpretive feeling to the image, as if it means something profound. Usually I have some metaphoric, philosophical idea when going into a drawing, but they ultimately never mean TOO much haha.

Despite that, some would say that's the goal of art - the viewer has a great opportunity to interpret what they see. It probably works better if you don't try to fill it with too much, but anyway, we've digressed from the main point which is that your art is awesome, and I really enjoyed it
