Description
Landscape of a planet orbiting a red dwarf star. This planet is tidaly locked, thus red dwarf always stays at the same spot in the sky. In this case, we see a sandy beach at the line between day and night. This part of the planet stays in permanent evening/morning with this big sun never setting, or rising. You can also see a silhouetes of planet's two moons and a distant, brighter star which is a companion to red dwarf.Related content

It's 1 AM CET and I just got around to checking the DDs.
Now I feel inspired to stay up and paint surf.

Your art always takes my breath away. I'm glad you're bringing to life the worlds that are out there.Β

Hello:
Β If humanity survives long enough, this would be a kind of world likely to be colonized. Stable Red Dwarves are a haven for posterity in the universe .
Β Your illustration looks great!

Congratulations! It'd be interesting to think about how life would be in a planet like this, with such environmental conditions.Β

Hello:
Β And congratulations for you too for the DD! . One could think plants (like those we take there) would eventually turn darker or almost black as they would need to absorb more light to make photosynthesis as they do here on Earth. But if truly habitable, I would love to take a look at that sun and it's corona, like you are showing in here... with protective glasses of course, hehehehe.

Oh, wow... You should never stop making these paintings. They are the closest things I've had recently that managed to take me to other worlds.Β

I wonder - with big moons like that, would the planet-moons system have enough angular momentum to avoid tidal lock?Β Orbiting that close to the star, would moons be more likely to be stripped away by the star's gravity?
In any event, a stunning painting!

To bad we live in a age when we'll never see something like this with our own eyes.Β
Top good work.Β

Great art! Β
But a tidally locked planet could not keep moons--they would have to orbit close to the planet (need to orbit at least 4 times for each time the planet orbits the star), and in that case, the planet's tidal force would lead them to spiral in to be torn apart. Β

This reminds me of the twelve (or however many are left now) Apostles in Australia. Fitting because this coastal area looks very warm and inviting even with its massive scale. I wonder how cool a star would have to be to be able to see its surface details like here. I hope it's possible at all, even when the sky is very smokey and our sun appears as red as a stoplight when it's down on the horizon I still can't really see any features. But then again I'm looking at a much smaller target. This here looks huge.
After reading the description I'm also wondering if those clouds on the horizon would be a permanent feature too, maybe from the ocean on the side nearer to the sun steaming away more rapidly than out here.

This scenery would be more complete with tiny silhouete of four-winged alien creature gliding over the sea far away.

If there were people living on this planet, this beach would be THE tourist attraction, crowded with tourists, viewing platforms and food stands. Beautiful scenery!

If I was on this planet if it was real, I'd stand there singing the lyrics to the Sci-Fi comedy series Red Dwarf
