Would the sky be oranger, redder or darker than this IRL? How much of this drawing is artistic license?

It depends on what makes up the atmosphere.

I wonder how a ring system orbiting Earth would have affected civilization. I bet complex mathematics would have been developed a lot earlier to calculate the distance and size of the rings based on the angle at which they appear in the sky, at least.

Is just Amazing the tone you can give to your paintings

So do you consider this one a sunset... or a sunrise?

It's neither. This planet is so close to red dwarf star that it is tidally locked. Meaning star's gravitational pull keeps planet always facing it with only one side.
It's permanent scorching daytime on one side and freezing night on other.
So this is the view from the night and day zone where this dwarf star always hangs in the same place. Never setting, newer rising.

That is so cool! Thank you so much for clarifying, I was really interested in the setting of this pic for some reason. You should include more of this stuff in your descriptions, learning about these things makes the art even better (if that's even possible).

Reminds me of the short story "The Wall of Darkness" by Arthur C. Clarke. In some ways I also think of "Nightfall" by Asimov. I know those are moons but the number of objects in the sky is also six.
Good work!

I really love the art you make, extraterrestrial themed art is one of my favourites.

Thank you! I loved extraterrestrial illustrations since i was little.
It seemed so magical to visualize places which could exist somewhere in the universe and make illustrations with them...

Ho yeah. I love how you don't put in plant life or anything to your art and thus it has that otherwordly feel about it that really draws me in, like how I actually imagine most extrasolar planets to be. Makes me want to actually be in that scene you drew. Great work.

And I see a strongly shining double star at left, so did you first intend to make this the α-centauri system, with Proxima as the primary star seen here?

JustV23 In reply to Aibo2 [2013-05-12 20:53:29 +0000 UTC]
Actually no. I added double star when this illustration was almost finished.
Well red dwarf stars often belong to a double or triple star systems.
So i just simply added those stars and only after that i thought about Centauri system.
But I'm not saying that this is a Centauri system. It might be, but it might be some other one

All good that.
At a distance of about 0,2 lightyear α-centauri A+B would look somewhat like that from Proxima - so we can imagine it's those two stars if we like.
Keep up the good work, now I am off to explore Miranda - or something else.

After visiting Miranda make sure to explore Ariel to.
For a long time Ariel was my favorite Uranian moon.

Sure will do - as soon as I am finished with the racetrack and trekking in the 5 km deep canyon Verona Rupes.

Great idea about rings! Really classic sci fi look. I think it does not even need planets in the center "filling the void", there is no void -- there a high violet sky.

RLY NICE!
Dude you have to make mattepainting sometime I dunno Ok, this one is really nice but maybe the further mountains are missing some depth
Also the scene might miss some massive warm glows/effect.
