~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joshua carefully lifted Nedes with his left hand to his chest. It was an odd feeling, having someone's life literally in your hands. He was unsure he could accomplish opening that door, it brought so many memories. He walked only a few steps down the hallway when he reached the door. The white door sparkled from the thin layer of dust against the meager sunlight and the paint was starting to peel in certain places.
Joshua did not want to go in. He stood there, unmoving and hesitant, wondering if he was ready. He felt a small tug on his shirt and he looked down to Nedes.
"Are you ok?" he said.
"Yeah, I'm fine."
Joshua reached for the doorknob. His hand shook and hesitantly he touched it. It was cold as before, but the stinging pain was absent. No memories of that day surfaced either...which was odd.
No time for excuses, it's time.
He slowly turned the knob...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Nedes was a bit nervous standing on a human hand. Joshua's hand was a little shaky and he had to constantly lean on Joshua for support. The hand felt rough as well, which reminded him of his dad; someone who worked long and hard.

Nedes saw Joshua attempting to open the door to the Sealed Room. The doorknob protested; rust had settled in, because of disuse. After turning the knob a fifth time, Joshua pushed the door open. They were greeted with an assaulting smell; Nedes tried to cover his nose with both his hands, but the smell was powerful and wouldn't let up. Joshua quickly slammed the door close and quickly fled into the dinning room, with Nedes bouncing in his hand.

Both took deep breathes of fresh air trying to get rid of the horrible stench in their lungs.

"What was that?!?!" Nedes exasperated, "It smells worse than a skunk!"

"I don't know...but I am going to find out." Joshua replied.

Joshua's hand slowly lowered itself to the dinning room table and Nedes carefully stepped off. Nedes nearly tripped himself, but successfully maintained his balance.

"How are you going to do that?" Nedes asked.

"With the right tools." Joshua exclaimed and quickly left down another hallway that led to the garage.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Joshua opened the small closet door adjacent to the garage. His father often kept his construction tools here. He knew that his dad had what he needed...and he did: a pair of clear goggles and a sterile white mask. Joshua immediately put them on, closed the closet door, and walked to the opposite hallway towards the stench filled room. As he passed the dinning room, he heard a small yelp from the dinning room table.
Nedes was shaking a little, it was obvious that his appearance scared the little person.
"Don't worry, it's just for protection."
Nedes face changed from fear to annoyance as he crossed his arms across his chest.
"Normal people don't go running around wearing masks, you scared me half to death!" Nedes reprimanded.
"You're right, no normal person..." Joshua whispered.
"WHAT'U'SAY?" Nedes asked.
"Oh, sorry, I won't do it again, promise."
Joshua quickly avoided the conversation and left to his original destination. He opened the door and was met again with the horrible smell, but to a lesser extent. He looked around the room with a sense of guilt. This was once his room that he had shared with his younger, Jason. A layer of dust covered the bedroom: the two beds, the dull brown carpet floor, cabinets filled with clothes, and toys that littered the floor haven't been moved since 'that' day.
Joshua noticed his bed, it was still neat and tidy as he left it nine years ago. He also noticed that the walls closest to his bed were covered with large black blotches.
...here.
Where is this coming from?
...under.
Joshua slowly grabbed his old bed and moved it across the brown carpet. He looked back and saw the mess of boxes that contained his old toys and knick-knacks. Tucked in a corner, he saw a large concentration of the black blotches, it even covered the boxes closest to it. He grabbed the non-covered portions of the boxes and moved them. Joshua gasped.
He left his old room and closed the door. He was angry, sad, and scared, having an iron grip on the knob.
"How...? Why...? Didn't the police check everything? Why was that...still...there...?"
Joshua wanted to cry, but nothing came out. His face was distorted with sadness, but he could only gag.
What he saw, in his childhood bedroom, was something covered in black mold with white objects jetting out of it. The remnants of a human hand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Gregory was hungry, really hungry, starving even. He had hoped to use the entrance behind the tv, in the rarely used living room, but he was too racked by hunger to notice the nearly invisible trap. Now he was stuck, contemplating whether he should wait for the human to kill him or bite his own paws off and escape.

The second option seems enticing, he thought, but I'd rather starve than walk with stumps the rest of my life.

*Sigh*

"...Why couldn't the human put up regular mousetraps, at least they would have food on them."
