Like the other commenter said, your hand looks fake next to your painting, haha. Such an amazing style...
Can I ask, do you water down your paints/build up many thin layers with acrylics? Or not mix in water? I'm curious about your technique.
And you probably get asked a lot, so sorry, but I'm still curious: how long does it take you to finish a painting?

That is incredible. No...not incredible...Godly....not even Godly. There really is no word for this. Its so realistic that your hand looks fake compared to the painting. The texture and colors make the face look as realistic as humanly possible. I had no idea this was even doable until now. It makes me wonder if I can fly in all seriousness.

Your work is so amazing. Are these paintings done in acrylics, or oils? Keep it up!

Your hand and brush looks almost fake compared to the painting. Well done specially for a WIP.

haha, actually that was the point of doing this painting. I wanted to make the model look cold, so I stood him outside for an hour in one of the coldest days of this winter!

Nnnnng god your stuff is so amazing... can I ask what got you into painting? Surely it's not all due to boredom....

not sure, really, since I have been drawing and painting when I was very little. Maybe I was bored indeed.

It's kina mean to draw someones pimples and dry lips...
but HOLY CRAP you're talented!

FireKittyArt In reply to Red-London [2013-01-21 16:28:44 +0000 UTC]
But wouldn't that defeat the purpose of realism? It's those imperfections that make it so perfect
π: 0 β©: 1
Red-London In reply to FireKittyArt [2013-01-21 17:39:22 +0000 UTC]
It depends on the purpose of the work. If someone ordered a portrait, I wouldn't want the pimples. It's just very unflattering to the person. That's the beauty of art - it can be better then reality, and you are so talented that you can combine both

MidnightEbony In reply to Red-London [2013-01-22 13:55:18 +0000 UTC]
I disagree with you, I think it would defeat realism paintings. It'd be like lying to yourself... It would be an untruthful painting, I guess it could also be like saying the portrait of the person feels s/he isn't beautiful and maybe only kidding themselves around. Perhaps that person would need to work on their confidence. Firekitty is right, imperfections make it perfect. No one is perfect. Even the models, but that goes onto a whole other conversation. I'll just leave my opinion here for anyone to mellow over :3

JW-Jeong In reply to MidnightEbony [2013-01-24 05:10:36 +0000 UTC]
Well, it always comes down to a question whether it is to please the person portrayed or to please myself. And then I make a compromise by holding onto my own belief that all the blots and imperfections, which in real life would definitely look ugly, can be look aesthetically beautiful once they are put unto a canvas. That's the magic of Art. What could be more enchanting than your pimples, scars and moles turn into an artistic beauty?
But that's my own point of view which sometimes does have a gap between real life. In fact, my grandfather did not like my portrait of him([link] ) because 'it looks too true' with all the wrinkles and liver spots. He refused to hang it on the wall in his house!

wow
you may could do some retouches for your grandpa, then
but as you said
this is the beauty of realism
in general, how many hours do you spend on one painting like this, oppa?
