Sorry for the really late reply! Tortillions are paper stubs, like these: www.studioartshop.com/acatalog⦠, they are really handy for small areas

Wow. I don't even know what to say. The detail is phenomenal. I love the way the hair looks completely realistic. The entire face is so well rendered and the expression is so realistic. It's very inspiring.

Do you use charcoal or pastels or something for the black parts, or is it just pencil?

Just pencil, I was very tempted to use pastels but it has a different tone to pencils and as it doesn't really blend it shows up at the scanner

Yeah, that makes sense. How'd you get it so completely black then?

A lot of patience and I think around 3 sticks of lead But if you want you can use 3B-6B pencils to speed things up
Or the darken tool in photoshop
But the first method has a better result if you can spare the time

You mean you did that with a less than 3B grade pencil?
Holy crepe.
Wouldn't that get all shiny?

jyongyi In reply to AmberCantrill [2011-12-22 03:12:18 +0000 UTC]
Its only because I hardly use pencils I used mechanical pencils which for me is easier since there's no need to sharpen Yeah I'm super lazy~ Well the shine doesn't show up on the scanner and will only show up if you are drawing under fluorescent lighting I guess

Fair enough. Mechanical pencils are not to be sniffed at
