Do you use charcoal or pastels or something for the black parts, or is it just pencil?

Just pencil, I was very tempted to use pastels but it has a different tone to pencils and as it doesn't really blend it shows up at the scanner

Its only because I hardly use pencils I used mechanical pencils which for me is easier since there's no need to sharpen
