Heaven: The harshly cold temperatures became a threat to its life. In order to survive, it allowed itself to petrify, entering a near lifeless state of existence.
Earth: It is said that its heart only beats once a minute. Many trainers have mistakenly believed their Pokemon to have passed on due to this.
