Description
Visiting the VLA feels like walking into a sci-fi movie, but to see it at night with a full moon feels more like a dream. The VLA is located in a remote area of New Mexico, USA and is also the setting to many scenes in the 1997 movie "Contact".

thanks again!
First & most important thing, get away from light pollution!
This is a 13 second exposure, shot at ISO 3200. It helps to shoot wide open (biggest aperture/lowest "f" stop - this was shot at 2.8) to allow the most light in as possible. wide lenses are a must.
Set all camera settings to manual including white balance (i find WB 3000-3500 good)
some lenses you can simply set to infinity, others use the camera's "live view", zoom in on a bright star, and turn the focus ring on the lens until you're dialed in. its also important to shoot in RAW as it allows the most options in post and in reducing noise. oh, and a solid tripod is pretty important too
lastly, get outside and just start firing away!

Well, i hope you're able to someday! that's definitely one of the nice things about living in New Mexico, a lot of dark skies

Nicely done! The lens flares add a supernatural and alien effect

wow! gotta watch your profile not to miss the time lapse!
so much going on on this pic. usually, it's a serene, romantic thing, astro photos are. but this one has a plot, several characters and a mysterious ending....
