Description La di deee, the second life-size Mew. With some directed alterations.

I think I got the Mew-ness down better, what about you guys?

Also, the first of my needlefelts to have my signature on it. It's that swirly thing on the foot. It looks the same upside-down.

This one already has a home!

-----

This creation was made with a type of crafting called needle felting. Basically what happens is I take a bunch of loose (i.e. roving) wool and jab it with a needle (many, many times). The wool bonds to itself, slowly getting firmer and firmer. Eventually, it's firm enough to stand by itself in a sculpture-like way. By adding more roving wool, I can sculpt a creature or a person or whatever out of the wool.

Needlefelting is a relatively new craft, having only been invented 30 years or so ago. It's similar to the process of wet felting, but instead of using water, needles are used.

My needlefelt creations almost always include a wire base, so they are extremely posable, and I find the freedom of sculpting and the resulting plushness to be everything I could have asked for in a medium.

I happily take commissions, and my prices range from 20 and up, depending on the complexity but mainly on the size.

1. What is needlefelting?
2. How do I do needlefelting and the eyes?

I made a MewTwo plushie and I love him to death but his eyes are really derpy,Β sailormbmoon.deviantart.com/ar…

So yeah it'd be fantastic if you tell me to needle felt eyes pleaseΒ  Β

1. Needlefelting... I describe it in my artist's description. :/Β

2. You take wool roving and needlefelt needles and jab the needles into the roving on top of the fabric where you'd want the color to go. Needlefelt needles don't like fabric too much; be careful about that.Β

There are youtube tutorials available that you can probably find pretty easy with a google search, so I'll leave it to you to do so.Β

I think I have a deja-vu...
On June 1st, I had a dream, in which my parents gave me a plushie Mew like this one as a present I was so happy, so truly happy, I almost cried in my happiness... Because for me, Mew is like a symbol of childhood, or innocence. June 1st = Child's Day Coincidence... perhaps
Sadly, the morning after this wonderful dream, I couldn't see any Mew in my room

ah, long comment
I admire you for your talent in this domain of art Your plushies look formidable~

Ask any needlefelter how insane I am to try this, and I'm sure you'll get "completely."

Materials alone ran past 100 USD, and add 60 hours of work and that is a cheap price, my friend.

Ha, no worries. I can just practice different things until I can get the effect. I've never made something nearly as big in wool though (where I could use this technique on eyes). It must have taken forever. @_@

This is by far the most flawless handmade Mew, rather, it's the best Mew I have ever encountered. I'd love to purchase one, but as of right now I don't have $500 to spend. I'd like to stay in contact until then, though. If you're interested. You're a very talented artist, I aspire to one day be able to create something as wonderful as this!

k-times-two In reply to BeaustifulVista [2011-12-15 00:35:57 +0000 UTC]

I'm glad you like it so much as to write a comment like this. Depending on exactly when you raise the money, though, I'm not exactly sure if I'll be able to take the commission right away. If it happened to be by this summer, though, that would make for a nice coincidence. ;D If not, of course, so long as you're willing to be patient with me, of course I'd be interested.

As it stains, I happen to only be a 17 year old without a job. plus, I'm unsure how the payment would work, like, would I ask you to make it first, then pay you, or pay you, then wait for you to complete it and send it to me? And just something to keep your spirits up, the picture you put up of this is my wallpaper on my iPad.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

k-times-two In reply to BeaustifulVista [2011-12-16 00:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Haha, you are right, that does keep my spirits up. X3

Usually, I go about 1/2 at the beginning, and then 1/2 after I'm done plus shipping. But since Mews are an investment, I'm willing to further break that down and all depending on what your situation is.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

BeaustifulVista In reply to k-times-two [2011-12-16 11:07:32 +0000 UTC]

Mew is my favorite, would you be able to make a smaller version? And if so, how much would you sell it for?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

k-times-two In reply to BeaustifulVista [2011-12-16 20:37:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, I could make it at just about any size, yeah. Errm, if you give me how much you're willing to pay, or how big you want, I can specify the other variable.

But, for a Mew 6" tall from feet to head, I'd ask for... around $75?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BeaustifulVista In reply to k-times-two [2011-12-16 22:22:13 +0000 UTC]

Hmmmm, what about 10 inches or a foot?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

k-times-two In reply to BeaustifulVista [2011-12-19 20:21:18 +0000 UTC]

10 inches tall... $200.

And then a foot tall... $275?

I'm trying to make this fair in my head for both of us, but honestly since needlefelting's a volume-based craft my poor little mind is on the fritz. I tend to undersell myself, though, so I'm guessing those are good prices...

Hey, don't feel bad about it! Youre a great artist! You should believe your creations are the greatest in the world. I know I'm proud whenever I write music. But, I will definitely stay in touch and try to compile enough money.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

BeaustifulVista In reply to k-times-two [2011-12-16 02:24:21 +0000 UTC]

Hahah, well I'm thinking I'd probably get some money after Christmas and it'd only build up afterwards since I never spend money. I'm almost little hesitant about spending $500, although I do think it is worth it because it would be practically one of a kind as well as the complete flawlessness of it. Is there no chance of lowering the price at all? Or are you stuck at $500?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

k-times-two In reply to BeaustifulVista [2011-12-16 02:34:20 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, I was thinking of going up on the price soon. If I calculate what I actually earn, it's less than a fourth of the living wage in the area per hour, and less than half the legal wage per hour at any other job.

And if you're not hesitant about spending five hundred dollars I would hazard a guess that you were a gambler. :I Don't overextend your means. And, also, if you're more interested in another small Pokemon, others could be cheaper than life-size than Mew is. Just throwing that out there.

I don't understand how it's posable..... wouldn't the wool, being felted into place/shape, go OUT of place when you move it?

k-times-two In reply to MewLightKitten [2011-11-03 19:12:43 +0000 UTC]

Nope. It keeps its form, but the wire lets you bend the form. If that makes any sense.
