Beneath the many layers of clothing that he attempts to hide himself behind, Elijah is a young man of slight build and a shrinking posture. He has a crop of dark brown hair that grows long around the frame of his face, hazel eyes that often cast themselves downward, and cheeks that betray him with a blush at even the slightest fluctuation in emotion. He keeps a capsule wardrobe of well-made clothing in swatches of neutrals with the occasional addition of goldenrod yellow and powder blue.
Bio
Elijah grew up on Nomie and moved away for a fresh start and college shortly after graduating high school. He had visions of himself growing bigger and bolder, enriched by higher education and his new environment while being provided all the tools necessary to succeed and find his spot among the great photographers of the world. He started each semester with this vision in mind, and ended each semester swearing that the next one would be different , better. *He* would be better.
When Elijah worked-up the nerve to socialize, he hovered at the edges of friend groups, feeling apart from everyone even when he was among them and second-guessing his words until he finally retreated to the comforts of solitude. If he was feeling particularly down on himself, he would seclude himself to an online mmorpg where the progress was real and discernable. And when his frustrations with himself were peaked, he’d grab his camera and find something or somewhere to go shoot.
4 Years passed this way. At the end of it, with a degree in hand, Elijah was a legendary ranked Battle Cleric, and a skilled photographer with a decent portfolio. But what he lacked in networking ended up being a lynchpin in preventing his photography career from growing from there.
Money, particularly a lack of it, can be a big motivator, and with little room for discernment, Elijah started taking any photography sidegig he could get while picking up shifts as a barista in a local coffee shop. Between nitpicky clients and crabby customers, Elijah’s ability to communicate with others slowly leveled up, but a few years after graduating college, a new problem began to snip away at him; he felt like he was losing his artistic vision. When the wedding photos and baby shower snapshots finally out-numbered his personal work, he made a decision to have a fresh start, again. After a few weeks of stalking the real-estate listings for Harmony Islands and avoiding anything that beckoned for a roommate, he found a rent-controlled cabin on Spokane and packed for his move.
His reacclimation to the rail-road islands has been easy, in part because he hasn’t devised any huge plans to throw himself out there quite yet. There’s been an interesting development with a woman named Angeline that now visits him at least once a week, and having his cousin Daryl a short train-ride away has been reassuring. While he’s still settling in, he’s decided to continue to work as a barista and picks up shifts at a chain called Kappa Coffee, which has been growing in popularity and popping up all over the islands for the past few years.

Elijah feels a thousand times more comfortable around people when he has a camera in his hands - a barrier between him and the others - a convenient excuse to remove himself from the smalltalk when he’s reached his limit - (Sorry, I’m a little busy right now.) He does hope to improve his ability to converse comfortably with others, but he’s no longer expecting this improvement to happen in dramatic leaps, especially while he’s still trying to, as his mom would phrase it, “Put himself out there”. The comforts of home and solitary pursuits will always be a draw for him, but he’s finding that ever since he’s returned to the islands, he’s excited at the prospect of trying new things, even if those new things make his face turn crimson and elicit the feeling of dry swallowing a biscuit.
Relationships:
Elijah has had crushes that he hasn’t pursued, and maybe a few instances of accidentally ghosting people that were interested in him, but when it comes down to it, relationships scare the hell out of him. The concept of dating someone will remain a faraway dream for him, but if the right person came along and weathered his indecision and awkwardness, he’d probably fall harder than a rino of rollerblades.
Schedule
Four or Five days a week, you can probably find Elijah working at one of the Kappa Coffee shops, and when he’s not there, he’s probably out scouting all over the islands for good shoot locations or collecting photographs. Occasionally, he stops by Daryl’s apartment to check-in on him, but those visits never tend to last very long.
