It was dark out in the outskirts of the Everglades National Park in Southern Florida, a light breeze flowing in the nighttime darkness. The leaves on the foliage and trees swayed lightly in the wind; the moon shined down on the ground, causing a bit of light but the shadows casted by the trees only made it seem darker. In the West end of the foliage and trees came a rustling sound in the bushes- and not from the wind. As the wind picked up in speed and power, a black and tan German Shepherd Dog wearing a dark gray leash and collar. It was an unaltered male and this wasn't his first time here- in fact, this dog was Arson, and he was frequently out with Rian and a team of people hunting down the highly invasive species of snake- the Burmese Python.

Arson was hot on a trail of the snake, occasionally sniffing the ground for a stronger scent as Rian looked for visual signs of a Burmese Python. The large German Shepherd picked up into a light canter, leaving fresh paw prints in the wet grass and mud, his legs getting covered in mud as he occasionally slid and skidded- but he was a very dedicated dog who was focused on doing his job. Soon he weaved through many trees and jumped over quite a few logs and Rian did his best to keep up with the dog. Arson soon picked up speed as if the dog were having flashbacks...

The forest and wetland landscape reminded the dog and his handler, Rian, of their most recent warzone in South America where these invasive pythons weren't... Invasive. Flashbacks of snakes constricting his squad mates filled Rian's mind as he ran after Arson, he understood very well how dangerous a full grown Burmese Python can and will be- he was also well aware of the dangers of Alligators and Freshwater Crocodiles which lived in the Everglades. The visions of his squad mates getting shot and being strangled by Burmese Pythons and other tropical snakes- and being bitten by venomous snakes lingered heavy on the man's mind. Rian had lost his best friend, Carson, on the hunt for enemy troops when a Burmese Python had slithered into their temporary set up as it rained. Rian remembered how he tried everything yet still didn't manage to save Carson until it was too late.

Suddenly Rian was snapped back into reality when he heard Arson bark and heard as the large dog skidded to a halt, once the dog stopped barking, everything was silent other than the sounds of frogs croaking and crickets rubbing their legs and wings together to produce a beautiful and comforting sound. Rian slowly emerged from the foliage, a little anxious after the flashbacks and afraid something may have got Arson once he was quiet- but instead he found Arson laying down and staring up at a branch on a tree.

And lord and behold... Wrapped around the branch of the tree Arson was staring at was a Burmese Python. Rian quickly patted Arson's head and pulled out the radio and spoke into it, "Burmese Python, 10 o'clock from your current location, over." Rian watched the python and sat down beside Arson, loving on his bestfriend as he waited for the team to arrive with a bucket and snake hook. Rian then stood up and helped capture the juvenile snake and looked at Arson, giving a nod and giving him a command, "Find Python."

Arson stood up quickly and trotted off into a direction, sniffing the ground and holding his tail high. Despite the successful capture of one juvenile, the night wasn't anywhere near being over- their work has only just begun as they were working on removing the Burmese Pythons in a safe manner.
