great structure (i really wonder how you did that), but i'm not so much for the sky blue; individual preference of course.

btw, looking at the edge of the image, it looks like density estimation has been used to render it - flam3?

Yes I do use flam3 to render the Apophysis flames, with a quad core it's much faster, and the result are more accurate (often Apo do render the colors in a wrong way, too bright even if the preview is good).

This flame use a Julian/Arch base (the X-chromosom shape is a symptom of this), a linear 2nd transform, and a Curl/Linear postXform.
