Description
The Crystal Incursion
It has been 20 years since the last invasion of Earth. And now, all was at peace again as humanity was once again in a pinnacle of peace. Once more taking the remaining Vortaak technology, they built technologies of their own to better improve their cultures, and enhance their fields of science, and weaponry as well. With this technology, an industrial revolution was born, as in the research of the mechas Jet Jaguar and the technology of the cyborg, Megalion, humanity was able to create more “monsters” of their own to fight other monsters.
Operation Jaeger was thus brought into being.
The Jaegers are an advanced form of robotic life built to ally with the earth’s defending kaiju from threats that would otherwise endanger humanity. Like Jet Jaguar, and the mecha, Kiryu, they are as close to being human as you can get, and will fight to the death to defend their charge. Yet they are not the only products of mankind’s ingenuity. Through reverse-engineering of the Mechagodzilla Neo, added to the Vortaak tech, humanity was able to produce a powerful warmachine known as Super Mechagodzilla. With their enhanced science, they even went a step further, and transformed the deceased body of the Heisei Ghidorah into Mecha King Ghidorah (MKG).
The Global Defense Force has evolved to The Earth Defense Force, to symbolize the military conglomeration with the kaiju under the leadership of their king: Godzilla.
In regards to the kaiju, Godzilla and his companions have resigned themselves to living in peace on Monster Island. Since their defeat of Astaroth, and King Ghidorah previous, they had grown into more than friends: they were family. That is also the reason they were willing to act as wardens to their prisoners, held in the Omega Sector of the Island. The kaiju were allies of the Vortaak known as Gigan, Megalon, Thanatos the Destoroyah, and Battra. Though it may have been too kind to let them live, imprisonment was decidedly a good alternative as it ensured that, should they return, The Vortaak cannot upgrade them somehow. Trapped in force fields that domed them, with the cyborgs literally disarmed, Thanatos on ice, and Battra simply awaiting any moment to escape, it seemed as though they could do no harm as they were in their present state. And the Vortaak had not been seen for years, so there was a sense of relief there. Even so, neither human nor kaiju would remain complacent in case the aliens ever should return.
But they may find themselves soon waging a war on two fronts.
“Captain Tanaki, sir.” Miku said, garnering the Captain’s attention to her monitor, which had an orbital sonar on display. “Our orbital scanners have detected multiple objects heading towards Earth.” Tanaki’s eyes narrowed. “Are they alien ships?”
“No, sir: our readings show that they’re asteroids….hundreds of them.”
“But why didn’t our deep-space probes pick them up before now?” Tanaki asked, watching the screen show the asteroids preparing to pepper the planet. “That’s what’s so strange, sir: they just...appeared. Materialized out of nowhere.”
“And now they’re heading right for us.” Tanaki said worriedly. “There isn’t enough time to launch counter-measures. Send out a global alert. How long before impact?” Suddenly, the whole facility felt a tremor of immense force shake the very foundations of the HQ. Were it not built to withstand earthquakes, then more damage could have been done. A shame the same couldn’t possibly be said for the rest of the world. “Does that answer your question, sir?” Miku asked.
“Check on the kaiju, and make sure they’re alright. And check on the prisoners, too: those meteors may have damaged the force-field barriers.”
“The island’s taken several hits, but nothing...what?” Miku gasped. “Sir, something strange is happening. Some kind of...strange crystal formations...they seem to be growing from the impact points. They’re spreading across most of the Island.” Upon seeing the orbital view of the island being infested by the crystal formations, Tanaki could only look shocked. “My god. I’m not sure, but I have a hunch the Vortaak are behind this, somehow. An invasion can’t be far behind. Right now, though, we have to keep our four prisoners from escaping the island.” After a few moments of thinking, he gave the order.
“Signal the Earth Defenders.”
Godzilla, the aptly named King of the Monsters, was lying comfortably by the beach in a relaxing position while he napped. Tristan, the Zilla who was his mate, and husband in human terms, was laying against his beloved’s warm, comforting body, sharing in the rest when it happened. The entire island shook, and woke them both from their slumber. “Seiki? What was that?” Tristan asked as he quickly stood up.
“I don’t know…but it can’t be anything good.” Godzilla said, getting up to his feet. “Come on, let’s find the others.” Tristan nodded, and off they went. They first sought out Rodan in his nest, since he was the closest. But to the two “Zilla’s” horror, they saw that the Island was riddled with giant crystals. “It can’t be.” Godzilla whispered to himself as he looked around at the devastation brought on by the crystals. They then heard struggling sounds as they arrived to see both Angilas, and Rodan trapped by the crystals. Rodan in particular was walled in by the crystals, as if they knew how to trap him. Before the two kaiju could make a move, a familiar head popped out of the ground. “Quite the situation, I think.”
“Baragon.” Godzilla said, sounding somewhat pleased before looking to his other friends. “How did you avoid getting caught by these crystals?”
“Same as any subterranean: I dug under them.” Baragon said simply as he popped out of the hole he came from. “Unfortunately, I wasn’t strong enough to break the others out. Think you guys could lend a claw, or more?”
“Sounds good. I’ll take Angilas, and you can take Rodan, Seiki.” Tristan said.
Godzilla nodded in agreement, and the two went off to free their friends. It took a while, given how tough the crystals were. But eventually, the duo broke the crystals apart. However, in doing so, they absorbed some strange radiation from the crystals that seemed to make them feel strange. They felt...stronger, somehow, but not in the natural way. Thankfully, the feeling passed, and the Earth Defenders, as the GDF took to calling them, were reunited. “Thanks for that, Goji.” Rodan said. “I couldn’t tell you how uncomfortable being crammed like that really was.”
“No, but I can still believe it.” Godzilla said.
“Godzilla, what’s going on?” Angilas asked. “Where did all these crystals come from?”
“I wish I knew, buddy...but i’m as in the dark as you are. I can only guess that those stupid aliens have something to do with this.” Godzilla growled.
“You don’t think it could be...HIM, do you?” Baragon asked. “That maybe it’s Astaroth back for revenge?”
Godzilla wanted to rule out that possibility. They saw him get dragged into a black hole at the end of their climactic battle, and that was the last any had seen of him. Just like the Vortaak, noone had seen him in twenty years. Yet there was no body. He simply disappeared before their eyes, and that was it. Meaning the odds of Astaroth still being alive were still high. But before he could say anything, the comm disk on his chest started shining. “Godzilla, do you copy? This is Captain Tanaki speaking.”
“Godzilla here: what’s the situation.”
“I’m not sure if you noticed, but strange, alien crystals have overtaken the island. I’m worried they may have damaged the Site Omega force-field generators. I don’t think I need to tell you what would happen if that were the case.”
“No, indeed.” Godzilla said gravely. “You just make sure the humans in your base are safe. We’ll check up on our favorite prisoners.”
“Thank you...and good luck.”
Still resting in their force-shield cages were the vile cyborgs, Gigan and Megalon, as well as Mothra’s dark twin, Battra. The fourth in the troupe was the wicked monster, Thanatos. Still frozen in ice, and in a thousand pieces. As research proved that he could regenerate from even a single piece of his body, it was decided it was best to keep him on ice. Thus did the GDF keep his ‘cell’ below freezing in order to maintain his frozen stature.
But that changed when a crystal tower erupted out of one of the generators powering all the shields holding the kaiju, then obliterated the rest to shut down the shield leading out to sea.
Though confused, Battra was the first to act by flying over to Thanatos, and using his power to thaw his body to the molecular level, thanks to his magical power. The result was the body parts dissolving into orange particles, and aggregates appearing from underground. He then watched as they swam out to the open ocean to do who knows what. The dark guardian figured it was still the least he could do for a potential comrade. That’s when he noticed the cyborgs looking confused. “Uh, Gigan? What’s going on around here?”
“It looks like we’re being sprung.” Gigan answered. “I say we make like a comet, and get out of here.”
“Good idea, pal.” Megalon said, opening his wings, before he realized something. “But what about the Batbug?”
“Do what you will, beetle, for I hold no concern.” Battra said, before flying off to the ends of the Earth.
“Was it something I said?” he rhetorically asked, before he and Gigan took off into space to find The Vortaak. As for the crystal tower: once its purpose had been fulfilled, it exploded into crystal dust. So by the time Godzilla, and the crew did show up, the place was deserted. “Captain?” Godzilla said into his disk. “I’m afraid I have some bad news.”
“Let me guess: all four of them escaped.”
“Yep. Maybe the Vortaak really are back, and they caused all this.”
“Well, if they are responsible, then we’ll be ready for their next big move...whatever it may be.”
“I agree.”
A few hours later, and both Gigan and Megalon were far from Earth’s orbit. They had just reached the moon when Megalon spotted it. “Gigan, look! A Vortaak Warship! They came back for us!”
“Don’t get too excited, Megalon...look again.” At his insistence, Megalon did look at the ship - and realized it was partially a wreck. One side of the hull looked like it was breached, and there was debris everywhere. Ships were hard at work repairing the ship to the best of their ability, but the cyborgs knew it would take a long time. But they paid it little heed as the dome opened for them, and they were given access to the arena.
“What kept you fools for so long?!” Shouted a loud, and strong voice.
Megalon gasped, “It’s The Emperor!”
Suddenly, the two were bombarded by red and black lightning, and sent sprawling onto their backs. It was too obvious their master was angry. Not wanting to anger him further, they knelt before him as he asked, “Where...have you two been?!” Gigan was the one to speak. “Please forgive us, my lord. During the battle at Mt. Fuji, we were bested by the kaiju, and imprisoned by humans. We underestimated them, and paid the price with our freedom.”
“Be thankful you do not pay with your lives, cyborgs.” spoke an unfamiliar voice. Both turned, and saw a most unsettling sight: a humanoid kaiju whose entire body was covered in a skeletal armor over a black-skinned body...with two heads that seemed like the same skull, but smaller, and with the same hollow eyes with red pinprick pupils. What was most peculiar was that his tail tip was split in two. It almost reminded them of Ghidorah in a way. “The Emperor has killed for less than such.”
“Yeah? And what do YOU know about it?” Megalon asked.
“More than you know.” Lord Bagan answered. “This is my new apprentice, Kaiser.”
Both cyborgs were rather stunned by this. “NEW apprentice?” Gigan questioned. “But what about Lord Astaroth?” At the mention of his name, Bagan simply said, “He was a failed investment, just as King Ghidorah was. I do not give one who is meant to be second to myself another chance to fail me. He may continue to rot in whatever realm he was banished to as far as i’m concerned.” His eyes then narrowed. “And if you two fail me again, your fate shall be worse. Are we clear?”
“Yes, Great Emperor!” both cyborgs exclaimed.
“Good.” He then raised a clawed hand, and with a transfer of electrical energy of a mystical nature, caused both of the cyborgs to self-repair their missing arms - though now, Gigan was loaded with dual chainsaws instead of his scythes. Yet when he checked, he found he could transform his arms from chainsaws, to scythes, to his old hooks. And even though Megalon’s arms remained the same, he was still thrilled to have them back. Seeing they were back in business, Lord Bagan decided to give his command.
“Now, prepare yourselves, my servants. No longer do we wage simple battle after simple battle against the mortals of this world. Now,” he said as bay doors opened, and revealed nightmarish creatures more imposing than anything they’d ever seen before, “we march to open war.” The howls of the kaiju hidden in shadow, but illuminated by blue, and orange markings echoed through the ship as Bagan grinned.
“Vengeance is mine.”
Thanatos had reformed into his true form once he had swam out a far distance from the Island. He had no idea what he was going to do. But he did know he was going to make certain kaiju pay for his humiliation.
Farther away from where Thanatos was, a pair of ghostly white eyes opened, and glared with hatred at the bottom of the pacific.
Mothra Leo had just finished destroying the last of the meteors heading towards Infant Island when he sensed a dark presence in the heavens above. “He is here.”
And from within a crystal void, a silhouetted saurian on a crystal throne observed all that transpired with wicked glee.
“Let the games begin.”
