Description
Redemption of Megalon
Several weeks had passed since the incident with Thanatos. Astaroth was enraged to learn that his faithful huntsman was now dead. He had made a habit of killing Trilopods, and Gyaos on the occasion he grew angry. But that aside, things began to grow increasingly worse for the people of Earth. With the Gyaos now among their ranks, the Cryog and their forces were now taking more territory for the Regime. The GDF was stretched paper thin, even with all of their mechas joining the fight. And thanks to Orga’s restored intelligence, provided by Astaroth, The Tenebris Regime had gained a great asset to their cause.
The only thing which ensured the Cryog held no complete victory was the Earth Defenders. All of whom had taken to guerilla warfare in an effort to waylay the Regime’s plans.
Sadly for them, it simply wasn’t enough - it will require a miracle for the Earth Defenders to achieve victory.
“The upgrade is now complete.” Orga said, as Megalon emerged from the chamber he was held in. Once he stepped out, he looked over himself to see how different he was compared to his original design. Needless to say, he was quite surprised by how close a combo this new body was between his organic, and cybernetic one. He also noticed he now had a long tail swinging back, and forth behind him. “Whoa.” he said. “You really did an interesting job, Orga. This new body feels so much different from what I used to have….but in a good way.”
“I should hope so.” The millennian said. “The process for your augmentation was tricky at best. Few have ever attempted a complete fusion of bio and technomatter until now. But thanks to the Cryog technology, it seems such a fusion IS possible. You are now faster, more nimble and just as strong as you ever were. Only now your drills can fully interlock to form an even more massive drill for maximum devastation.”
“Huh. Kinda like the sound of that.” Megalon said with what sounded like half interest. Something Orga picked up on almost immediately. “Is there something the matter? You seem to be melancholy about something.”
“What?” Megalon said, barely paying attention. “Oh, no. No, I was just thinking of something, that’s all. Wondering if…….all of this stuff we’re doing is really worth it. You ever wondered that, Orga? Even when you were mainly a brute?”
“What an interesting question to ask, my horned friend.” Said Kaiser, being held in restraints and hung on the wall. “Not having second thoughts, are you? I would hate to think what the Emperor might think if he learned you were considerAAAARGH!” he roared as Orga activated the taser system. “That is enough from you, you opportunistic fool.” He then turned to Megalon. “To answer your question, Megalon: no, I have never questioned whether this was all ‘worth it’ or not? I am simply happy to conduct my research in peace, and leave this planet in ruins once our mission is a success. Kaiser is the only one who seems unhappy with his lot in life, as you can see. But enough questions - I have work to do, and I don’t need you distracting me.”
“Oh, um….r-right. Sorry, and thanks for the upgrade.” Megalon said, before leaving the lab of the Cryog ship.
As he wandered the halls, he began to wonder what was wrong with him. Why was he thinking like this? It should have been no issue, as he’d been fighting for Lord Bagan since his home of seatopia was lost. He was convinced that the only thing he had left to fight for as the Earth by The Emperor, himself. But now, the Earth was on the verge of total destruction, and he was helping it along. Yet a single memory continued to run through his mind the more he thought about it. ‘The choice is either live to fight another day, or face destruction here, and now. And I do not wish to see another fellow guardian’s life be taken because of that wicked demon. Please...make the right choice, and go in peace.’ He could not remember the last time he had been called a guardian, much less by King Caesar. It only made his thought process go further into overdrive than ever before. Yet before he could process any further, he heard voices in Astaroth’s chambers. “Megalon’s upgrades should be completed by now thanks to Orga, and our own scientists.”
“They had better be, for your sake, Karkaro. The insect has failed one time too many. I have no interest in suffering another failure because of him.”
“Trust me, Lord Astaroth, he will be perfect in every way. Godzilla, and his allies will never know what bit them. And victory will be ours.”
“A simple guarantee at best.” Astaroth said impatiently. “Yet not one that inspires confidence. And my patience is far thinner than it once was now that Thanatos is dead. You had best be sure that Megalon performs to the optimum level necessary, or I will personally crush him as I did Seatopia long ago.”
“Of course, my liege. I-” Karkaro was suddenly interrupted by the sound of a footfall outside the chamber, with the doors opened just a crack. Both noticed Megalon with his back turned to them. And he appeared to be shaking. “Is that you, Megalon?” Astaroth asked. Megalon’s shaking grew more frantic, and growls of rage escaped his maw as he screamed, “WHY YOU!” before he burst into the room with both drills revving, aimed towards Astaroth. The crystal tyrant had but a split second to raise a shield up, and push against the enraged cyborg. “What are you doing, Megalon?!”
“It’s a rebellion!” Karkaro exclaimed. “He heard what we said, and now Megalon’s plotted a rebellion! We must sound the alert!”
Karkaro pressed a button on his hover platform, and the sound of klaxons sounded off. Megalon ignored them as he tried in vain to dig through Astaroth’s shield. Soon enough, Gigan, Dagarla, Orga, and Krystalak entered the room with a group of trilopods at their beck and call. “What’s going on in here?” Gigan asked, noticing Megalon attacking Astaroth for a few moments before he finally noticed the group now in the room. Karkaro shouted, “He’s a traitor! Detain him at once!” The three could hardly believe their ears. Megalon was turning on them? Of course, before anyone could do anything, Astaroth gripped Megalon in a psychic hold. “You made a grave mistake, Megalon. Had you simply remained ignorant to the truth, you could have lived a full life. Now, you will join your people in oblivion.”
“Not today!” Megalon strained before he did the unthinkable: he spat a napalm bomb directly into Astaroth’s face. The crystal saurian released him, and began screeching in pain while clutching his face in anguish. Megalon took this as his chance to escape. But he knew he couldn’t leave the way he came in. So he took Orga’s advice from before, and turned himself into a massive drill that tore through the wall as he emerged from the side of The Command Ship. Now, he was on the run from his former allies, with no idea where to go. All he knew was he had to get as far away as possible, and quickly.
Back inside the ship, Astaroth had finally healed from the surprise attack, and glared at the hole in his chamber. His fury was immense, and it was all he could do to contain it. Krystalak dared to speak out, and asked, “What are we to do, father? Megalon knows our secrets. If he were to escape, and join with the Earth Defenders-”
“I won’t let that happen!” Gigan exclaimed in his own anger. “I’ll skewer that miserable turncoat myself! I’ll hunt him down, and then make him pay for what he’s done!”
“There is no need for hunting when we can track his every movements.” Orga stated.
“Huh? How will we do that?” Dagarla asked. “He must be a long way from here by now, and he must know how to evade the Trilopod’s hunting instinct. He will be tricky to track down.”
“You did not seriously believe I would send my newest creation out into the field without first having him microchipped, did you?”
“Well, n-no, of course not.” Gigan said. “But seriously? You did that?”
“Excellent work, Orga!” karkaro exclaimed proudly. “I knew it was wise to genetically enhance your mind. You performed brilliantly. Now, what say you, my liege?”
Astaroth cast one last glance at the hole before saying, “I say that Megalon is now a liability to our cause. Send in Biollante. Let her make plant food out of that miserable traitor.” He then obliterated a Trilopod with his Corona Beam before leaving the room.
“Looks like the boss is in one of his moods.” Gigan said.
“Yes, indeed.” Karkaro said in ponderance.
Megalon had no idea how long it’d been since he fled the Cryog Command Ship. Only that he was growing tired of flying, and knew that he had to make a landing soon. His eye soon caught sight of a tropical rainforest infested with crystals, and chose that as his stop. What also caught his attention was who was down there, fighting a horde of Trilopods and Gyaos. It was King Caesar, and Baragon, and they were in trouble. This gave Megalon an idea: if he followed Battra’s example, and joined the Earth Defenders, then he could help them defeat The Tenebris Regime. So he made his choice, and dove down.
Caesar and Baragon continued clawing, punching, and kicking down every trilopod and gyaos in their path, but there seemed to be no end to them. “Got any ideas on how we survive this?” Baragon asked his stone friend, who said, “Trust that help will arrive when we least expect it, my friend.”
Almost as if on cue, Megalon began shooting supercharged lightning from his horn, and took down several Trilopods. Both kaiju were surprised to see Megalon here…but were even more surprised when they saw him fight, and tear through the Trilopods, and Gyaos like they were paper mache. They were even more shocked when they watched him begin shattering the power surge crystals in the jungle. The two finally decided to follow his example, and resumed their fight with renewed vigor. In almost half an hour, the Trilopods and Gyaos were all dead, and the crystals had been shattered. Now it was just Megalon, and the two guardians. “Okay, I know what you two are thinking, but I can explain everything.”
“Why are you here, and why did you help us?” Baragon questioned. “Is this some kind of trick?”
“No, it’s not a trick.” Megalon desperately said. “But I haven’t got much time. I turned against The Tenebris Regime, and they’re bound to send someone after me by now.”
“Why would you betray your companions?” King Caesar asked.
“Because they AREN’T my companions.” Megalon said aggressively. “Astaroth is the one who destroyed my home of Seatopia all those eons ago. And now he wants to destroy the only other place I could consider home: this very world. I won’t let that happen - not as long as I am one of the Shugoshin.”
King Caesar was proud to hear those words. Though Baragon was a little skeptical, Caesar could sense Megalon’s honesty, and sincerity. He truly wished to return to his station, and fight with them. Of course, before he could say anything, a golden cloud of pollen sank into the earth, and Biollante emerged from it roaring like the great beast she was. “Oh, great!” Megalon exclaimed, as he got ready to fight. Biollante eyed the group, and with a low hiss said, “I came here to kill the traitor….but i’m feeling quite peckish for some extra morsels right now.”
“Megalon.” King Caesar said. “If you truly mean what you say, then help us to defeat this atrocity.”
“Sooner said than done, my friend.” Megalon said.
“This is still weird.” Baragon exclaimed.
And with that, the battle began. Biollante summoned numerous tentacles, some with venus flytraps, to attack the trio. And so they were stuck fighting numerous enemies from a single source. For Megalon, it was easy to either tear or blast through the tendrils thanks to his drill and horn. King Caesar had an equally stable time clawing through the vines, and burning them with his heatray. And Baragon’s size allowed him to keep ahead of the tendrils, and avoid getting hit, But he was almost swallowed whole by Biollante when she lunged at him. Had he not fired his thermal ray into her mouth, he might have been her meal. Seeing this, however, actually have Megalon an idea. “Caesar, Baragon! Can you two try, and keep her distracted while I try something?”
“What do you think we’ve been doing all this time, ya idjit?!” Baragon shouted in exasperation.
“We will buy you time, Megalon.” King Caesar said. “Just do what you need to do.
Megalon nodded, and seemingly ran off, leaving the two kaiju alone to face the colossus. “Quickly! Burn her with all your might.” Caesar ordered, before firing his optic beams. Not quite understanding his plan, Baragon followed suit with his thermal flame. This attack seemed to work as it made Biollante back off out of fear of the flames. But that fear swiftly turned to anger when she fired a stream of her sap at the duo, who dodged to the left, and right respectively. “You’re both starting to annoy me.” Biollante said, wrapping her tendrils around both kaiju, and lifting them into the air. “I’ll make sure that when I eat you, it will be nice, and slow so that I can savor the taste.”
“You wanna eat something, you overgrown weed? Try me!” Megalon shouted, before locking his arms together, and forming into a massive drill again. One charging straight at the surprised Biollante from behind. She turned around fast, and instinctively fired her acid. But the stream just washed over him, and he entered her maw. As he traveled down her gullet, he fired napalm after napalm blast. Blowing so many burning holes into her she was now completely ablaze. Megalon then burst out of the glowing, orange sack that was her torso, and then began firing his horn at her. Once released from her grasp, Caesar and Baragon fired their respective attacks, too. In combination with the napalm fire, the trio’s attacks set Biollante ablaze. And she made one final death cry before falling to the ground, dead. Her body turning into ash as the fire burned her away, tendrils and all.
“Well, looks like that’s the end of her.” Baragon said.
“Indeed.” Caesar said, before turning to Megalon. “And what of you, my friend? Will you join us, and help us to win this war?”
“You still want me around?” Megalon asked incredulously. “But…Astaroth might still have a way to track me down. I’d just be putting you guys at risk.” Caesar then placed a hand on his shoulder. “He will find us regardless. But today, WE have found a truly noble, and honorable soul to aid in our cause. It was you who carried the day, and I would be honored to have you stand beside us. Together we can rebuild the Shugoshin, and end this madness forever.”
“Well…..when you put it that way, how can I say no?” Megalon said.
“Thank you, my friend.”
“No, thank you…for giving me another chance.”
The two then bumped their arms together to symbolize a broken bond fully mended.
Another victory for the forces of Earth.
And a moment Lord Bagan looked upon with contempt. While also enraging the Queen Legion immensely. "That insolent, miserable traitor! I will see him destroyed for this affront, myself! I will-" Bagan raised a hand to silence her, and said, "For now, you will do no such thing. The loss of Megalon is of no consequence to me. He knows the truth, and shall burn with it. Once the Anti-Life is mine, all shall bend to my will, and the world will be the center of my dominion. Understand?" Legion nodded, and bowed her head to the powerful despot.
"Hail Bagan."
