Soloist

It was time, at last. The humans had evacuated Boston as soon as the crystals emerged. This suited Atreus just fine. After blasting the crystals to nothing, he set out to perform his objective here. He knew that even with their combined strength, the Earth Defenders and humanity would lose against Bagan. They underestimated him once during The Great War, and nearly paid the price for it. This time things would be different. And the Shugoshin Titans who once protected this world would once again rise to defend their home. All that was needed was the call of an Alpha.

And Atreus was the last.

SSSKKKRRREEEEOOOOOGGGGGNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!!!

After a time, Atreus could sense his ploy was working. One by one, from Arizona, to Germany, even to Sudan, and Japan, the Titans were rising. All were awakening to the Alpha’s call. And those who heeded the call had already begun to make their way towards the one who awakened them.

The guardians of Earth were uniting against the Empire.

Lord Bagan was no stranger to this, either. He had heard the call, and knew it belonged to an alpha titan. A shugoshin, no less, he thought. The last time this happened, Dagon had called forth the Titans to oppose him. Now it seems his son was following in his father’s footsteps.

“So, it begins again.”

Astaroth sat on his throne in anger at the recent turn of events. He could not believe another kaiju would turn on them like this. And yet, here we were again, with Megalon returned to the side of the Earth Defenders. To make matters worse, Biollante was now dead, too. It seemed as though this would become some manner of unamusing trend that was growing progressively more irritating. And he would no longer stand for it. “Lord Astaroth.” said the voice of Orga as he entered the chamber.

“What is it, Millennian?” Astaroth said in an irritable tone.

“My lord, the scans are complete, as you requested. Long ranged scans have detected numerous life signals moving to a singular location. None of which register as Trilopod activity.”

Astaroth thought on this, and came to his own conclusion. “So it appears the Titans have finally been alerted to our presence. Now they are preparing for a counter-attack against us.” But Orga just shook his head, and said, “Actually, my lord, not all of these life signals have been moving to the location identified as Boston, Massachusetts. Some have deemed to set out on their own, and do whatever they desire.”

“Renegades, in other words.”

“So it would seem, my lord. Though, speaking of renegades,” Orga said before pushing a remote panel, showing Tristan swimming through the waters. “The Zilla specimen has been detected moving in the direction of the Antarctic, and appears to be alone. For the past three weeks, these “Earth Defenders” have remained off radar, and have been combating us through guerilla tactics. But now we have an opportunity to capture one of them, and perhaps extract some useful information regarding their plans.” Orga then bowed his head respectfully. “And I humbly request permission to recover the specimen myself.”

This raised a brow on the crystal tyrant. “Why so invested with this, Orga?”

“This specimen is a gold mine of genetic potential. The Vortaak foolishly allowed him to escape aboard a Trilopod travel pod, and have since cost us that potential. I wish to rectify that mistake, and return it to its rightful place with us so that I may continue the work of unlocking the secrets of the Quintessence in his genes.”

Astaroth pondered the idea for a moment before he made his decision. “Very well. Take Obsidious with you, and bring him back alive. Do not fail me again, Orga.”

“Thank you, my lord.”

After swimming for what felt like hours, Tristan could finally take a rest on the icy surface of the arctic shelf. He shook off the ice that briefly covered his body. Once that was done, he surveyed his surroundings. He was beside a valley of snow, and ice spanning for several miles. The snow was clear, and mountains of glaciers stood on each side. The wind howled through the air as Tristan admired the scenery. “This place really is beautiful…and I wish Seiki could see it.” He sighed. “But I don’t think i’m going to find any crystals out here. Besides the view, it was a mistake to come here.”

“Indeed it was: for you.”

Tristan suddenly felt something burning into his back as he was thrust forward. The attack stunned him for a moment, but he managed to get his senses clear and recovered. He turned around to find Orga, and Obsidious standing behind him. The latter pounding his chest like a gorilla as he roared in challenge to the reptilian kaiju. Orga simply began to approach Tristan, saying, “It was only a matter of time before you Earth Defenders made a mistake - i’m only fortunate it was you who became the subject of our patience.”

“Orga!” Tristan exclaimed. “Since when can you talk, and…why do you sound so smart?”

“That is of no concern of yours, Specimen Z.”

Tristan growled. “My name is Tristan, you hunchbacked freak!”

“Regardless, you are an asset that belongs to the Tenebris Regime.” Orga explained. “It was a mistake leaving you in the care of the Vortaak. But I will ensure you stay where you belong so that I may conduct my research into the Quintessence, thanks to your genetic material.”

“If you think i’m going anywhere with you, you aren’t as smart as you think you are.” Tristan growled.

“Sufficiently intelligent to predict this outcome. Now surrender, or die.”

“Blow it up yours, a-hole.”

“Die it is.” With that, Orga roared at Tristan with fury, and shoulder charged the kaiju. But the more nimble kaiju managed to jump out of the way, just in time for Orga to bury himself in a glacier. But that’s when Obsidious attacked, and began swinging his fists at Tristan, hoping to hit him. All he managed to hit was air, and this angered the volcanic golem further, making his punches move faster. On the twelfth, Tristan swung his tail at Obsidious, hoping to push him back a few meters. All that happened was his hail hitting the firmly planted golem in the chest with no effect, and then said golem grabbing him by the tail, swinging him in a circle, and then hurling him across the ice.

Orga had long since pushed himself out of the mound, and set his sights on Tristan. Looking behind him, he ripped out a chunk of ice, and hurled it at the reptilian kaiju. Tristan saw this coming, and jumped forward, away from the ice-chunk. But Orga wasn’t done yet, and used his arms to leap towards Tristan. Tristan saw this, and Orga rearing his right fist back, and dodged again just in time for Orga to punch a hole straight through the ice. Unfortunately for Orga, his fist got stuck in the ice, and he had trouble removing it. Trista, seeing this, began to develop an idea on how to win. Especially when he heard the stomping of Obsidious coming his way. As he observed, he noticed that the ice was melting around the golem, and weakening the terrain.

Bingo.

Taking a chance, Tristan used his tail to shove some snow onto Obsidious, watching as he made it melt, and his magma hardened. This didn’t last long, but his overstay on the spot caused his foot to sink into the ice. He roared in pain as he felt his foot freeze. Tristan then charged up his atomic ray, and fired it directly at Obsidious’ chest. This caused his entire body to reheat, and made him angry. At the same time, Orga finally got his fist free of the ice, and he noticed Tristan heading towards him. Seizing his chance, Orga lunged towards Tristan, and managed to grab hold of him with both hands. As much as he struggled, Tristan couldn’t break free of the monster’s firm grip. “Now, you belong to me!” Orga proclaimed, not realising he was playing right into Tristan’s hands.

Obsidious continued his approach, weakening the snow and ice around him. Once he was close enough, Tristan fired his atomic ray directly into Obsidious’ face. It didn’t hurt, but it did anger him enough to fire his magma stream straight towards the two. Thrusting his head down, he managed to evade the stream so that it hit Orga square in the face instead. This caused him to release Tristan as he tried to rub off the searing hot magma. Now seeing his chance, Tristan went right up to Orga, grabbed him around the waist, and hurled him through the air. He landed right on top of Obsidious. And with his massive weight pinning the golem down, nothing stopped that part of the ice from melting, and crumbling into the water. The water steamed, and hissed as Obsidious’ volcanic body met the subzero waters. As he, and Orga struggled to get out, Obsidious’ body began to harden, until it finally froze solid in the water.

Orga, all the while, was simply struggling to get a grip on the melting ice. Tristan went up to him with a cheeky smirk, and said, “Enjoy the steambath.” He then bonked Orga on the head, and watched the stunned beast sink beneath the waves. He knew that he wouldn’t stay down for long, so it was time to leave. Diving forward, he broke the ice Obsidious tread upon, and broke his way through the water. Now he was left wondering what he should do. He needed to get back into hiding again, if it was possible. But where could he go that would be good for-

SSSKKKRRREEEEOOOOOGGGGGNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK!!!

That’s when Tristan heard it: The call of the Alpha. The summons that he could not ignore. He knew that this was what he, and the other Earth Defenders were waiting for. And now Atreus was summoning the Titans to battle. With haste, he began swimming out of the Arctic, and to the place where the call was made. He knew Seiki would be there, too, and he couldn’t wait to see him.

Little did he suspect that he was secretly being pursued by one of these titans……and it was hungry.

“Well, he certainly made short work of those two.”

“Of course he did, sir.” Miku told Tanaki. “Zilla has always been one of the smartest kaiju in recorded history, and always uses strategy to fight. Those monsters made the mistake of underestimating him.”

“You seem to have quite alot of faith in him, Miku.”

“Yes, sir. Zilla has always been one of my favorite kaiju. And to be honest, studying him was part of the reason I joined the GDF in the first place.”

“Interesting. But now maybe we can figure out why so many kaiju signals suddenly popped up on our radar? First there were only a few, now there are over seventeen.”

“Maybe it has something to do with that strange roar we detected: the one made by the Legendary Gojira. He may be rallying Earth’s monsters to fight the Cryog forces.”

“Either way, things are going to get pretty hectic around here.” Suddenly, an alert sounded off throughout the base. “What’s going on?”

“It’s Mecha King Ghidorah! His readings are off the charts, and I can’t do anything to stop him!” Miku then turned on the screen of MKG in his hangar, and showed that he was indeed alive, and thrashing about while destroying everything. Both Tanaki and Miku realized something was wrong when they saw all of his eyes were glowing red. This included the red lenses of the middle head. He suddenly looked up, and then with a push, knocked through the hangar doors, and began to fly away. “All hands! I want the tracking system up and running, and I want to know where MKG is heading! Now!”

“First that new Godzilla makes that roar, and suddenly, MKG is on the loose.” Miku said aloud. “This can’t be a coincidence.”

“Maybe,” said Tanaki, “but like I said: things are about to get hectic around here.”
